Transmission fill plug

I'm trying to remove the fill plug using my 3/8" extensions but it's not coming loose. It is starting to strip it out. Is there a better fitting tool that goes in there?

And does anyone know the part number for that bolt in case I need to order one? I'm trying to find it on acuraoem.

Are you filling from the top or are you pumping it in from the overflow hole?

From the top I had to use a half-inch six-point socket a long half-inch extension, and a breaker bar to free mine up; even still there was plenty of twist in the extension before it broke loose.

I did spray pb blaster on it. I took it to a shop that's less than a mile from me. They loosened it up and then I asked them to snug it up. I'm going to order the bolt and wait till it arrives before I drain it.
According to the schematics https://www.acuraoemparts.com/auto-p...er=90081pwt000 it is part #19 but it is labeled a drain plug not fill. Are they the same part for both fill and drain?

I want to know for sure so I can order two to have, just in case.

Yes, same part for both plugs.

Edit, I *think* part number 27 is the overflow bolt; remove this when you fill, and when MTF starts leaking out of this hole, you're full.

Just got off the phone with delay acura. The part number for the drain bolt is 90081-PB6-000. Different than the fill bolt.

pb blaster and a breaker bar!!!! 19mm bolt on the top! Make sure to move the clip thats connected to the fuse box or move the fuse box completely, then get some leverage! I used this https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-25-in-breaker-bar-67933.html]http://I used this https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-drive-25-in-breaker-bar-67933.html[/url] with an extenstion.

It's not a 19mm bolt. It has an opening for a 3/8 ratchet.
I make my own brakes bar. I put a deep well socket over the end of my 3/8 ratchet and a long extension in the deep well socket.

How do you lay down and brake loose the top fill plug, the one below the battery? The issue wasn't that I couldn't get enough leverage but that the extension would rise up from the bolt and it was starting to round it out. The guy at the shop, hammered his extension in. I didn't think that would help, but it did.

My bad, you are talking about the bottom drain bolt. Haven’t had a problem with any of my 3/8 ratchets....i didn’t use an extension because i was under the car.....but i did use a breaker bar. Try getting under there and just sticking the ratchet in with a break bar. You shouldn’t be using a socket at all. Just put it in.

Sometimes when you heat the transmission while driving, then attempting a few minutes after stopping helps

I'm talking about the fill plug. Not the drain plug.

OP has a Manual transmission.

That would have been an important piece of information to include

On the Auto's, it's a 19mm bolt for the fill and a 3/8" ratchet for the drain.

Look at my top post and this one. Sometimes it doesn't show. I don't know why.

I also had to hammer the extension on to get it loose. The little ball sticking out of the 3/8 drive (the thing that normally holds the socket in place) was causing it to slide out of the plug. Whacked it a couple times with a mallet and that was enough to wedge the end completely in place.

Finally got a day that wasn't freezing, snowing or raining, so I put in the synchromesh. Let's see if that helps the 3rd gear pop out.
Good thing I bought 4 quarts. It took all of it.

Yikes! You put in too much, you should only put in 2.3 quarts (i.e. 2-quarts 10-ounces). You need open the overfill plug and let the extra drain out.

Lol, just seeing if anyone was paying attention. I put what I thought was 2 full bottles and about 12floz. Then I let the extra come out of the overfill plug.

Seems to shift a lot smoother but then again, it may just be expectations after reading all the praises the synchromesh gets on here.
I do have a question, can this be used on other manual cars?

I had a 2009 Mazda3 which I used as a long distance commuter as well as the car I taught my son to drive a manual transmission. It had a second and third gear grind issue and Synchromesh Friction Modified fixed that one as well.

It's been over 1 month since I've put the GM Symcromesh fluid in and I am surprised.
Before that I would have almost daily 3 gear pop outs. Now, it hasn't happened once since the fluid change.
Amazing.
