Transmission Failure at 148k
My 04 TL's 5AT transmission gave me a bad day. The other day, it started shifting a little rough. I better get that looked at this weekend. This morning, more rough shifts, then it wouldn't engage when upshifting during gentle acceleration. It sounded like neutral, but the sport-shift display showed 3 or 4, depending on what gear I was trying to get to. No other indicators on the dash, such as CEL, etc.
I managed to limp to my dealer, who has always serviced my car. I got a loaner to get to work. I did a search here to find others describing the same exact problem and fixing it with new pressure switches. I called the dealer to mention this and he said the tech looked into that, but ruled it out because a)"Lots of debris in the fluid" and b)he couldn't even get it into reverse.
So, they recommend replacing the transmission (~$4400 out-the-door).
Is there anything else I should have them inspect before I pull the trigger?
