Trans Issues

Alright guys, iv been monitoring this for a while and its to the point where im worried. The tranny on my 06 TL is acting up, its the 5 speed auto. It jerks, some shifts are not as smooth as they should be, and the fluid is dark, it dosnt really smell bad but im keeping an eye on it. What do you guys think?

the fluid should be redish pink! How many miles are on the car? The fluid is supposed to be changed at 60K according to the book, however the fluid looses a bit of it's capabilities by 30-40K!

go to the dealer and have it checked- even if they cant find anything wrong now, it will extend goodwill warranty to you later

do a 3 qt drain and refill on warm fluid from 15 minute freeway drive
before that- make sure drain and fill plugs are loose enough to remove
get 4 qts honda atf at honda dealer (cheaper than acura-same stuff)
it should drain approx 3.2qts if you let it drip, and it was warm to start

need to refill perfectly and ck per book for correct level testing method

Do a drain and refill and you will notice it start shifting a whole lot better. You will only be able to drain 1/3rd of the fluid in the transmission as the torque converter holds a lot of the fluid. As said above, go to honda and it's probably going to be cheaper for the same fluid (HONDA ATF).

Let it drip out into your container and then refill it with a long funnel. Make sure it's on a level surface and check the fluid level. Then go for a drive and leave the fluid in there for about a week so it can be mixed up. At that point you'll have 33% new fluid and 66% old fluid. Then drain and refill again and you should have about 60% new fluid and 40% old fluid. Repeat it one last time and you should change out almost all of the fluid. There will be some older fluid in there, but all the new fluid should compensate for it and of course give a huge improvement over the old stuff.

When I did my ATF change at 48k miles, I noticed a difference in shifting for the positive. Mostly when in "tiptronic" mode. Though I still have an odd shift when going from 3rd to 2nd, car seems to 'bog' down and doesn't do it as smoothly as the other gears. Any ideas on that issue? (not to thread jack though)
