Tranny might be going

This is kind of hard to explain but it feels like my tranny is acting up. I driving a 5AT and when I apply the brakes my car jerks ( head snap back motion) when it's downshifting. Also if I take my foot of the gas and cruise into a stopping motion the rpm needle would rise up for a bit and go down. I didn't change my pressure switches yet but if I did do you guys think that this will prevent the jerk motion when braking. I really hope I don't need a new tranny the car still drives great

you just described the symptoms of a regular downshift, the rpm jump up a bit, then slow down because you are braking. sounds 100% normal. this car isnt a camry that shifts like a grandma, the TL shifts are a little bit more harsh, but thats characteristic of the car.

^ car should not be jerking on the downshift hard enough to have a head snap back motion. should be smooh and just a downshift

^you're right but I am not sure if OP is exaggerating. People who are used to smooth shifting economical cars like the camry would think the TL transmission "jerks" in comparison

No exaggeration on my part when I apply the brake hard enough
I don't get that head snap back feeling I only get it when I'm slightly braking
And the car feels like the brakes just grab by themselves. Like I said before it's really
hard to explain this problem

Actually, The 2012+ Camry does shift smooth and quick and it's great especially in stop and go traffic in the hot weather. I never felt the car feeling extreme sluggishness comparing to our TL. Reason why I know that cause I did rent one for couple of days to see how it drove and quite frankly I was impressed. The one I had was a 2013 LE 2.5 4Cyl. 6AT.

Bad news. It sounds like your tranny is heading to the hospital. Mine did the same thing and I've yet to fix it. Hence my sig.

I got a strong jerking feeling when I was getting on an on-ramp on the freeway. The tranny refused to slip out of 3rd gear and when it did, I felt my neck snap. When I stepped on the brake, 3rd gear kicked in again and revved really high to downshift.

I changed the fluid, filter, and pressure switches. But I was too late. How many miles do you currently have?

The switches are a known problem, as is the original Z1 fluid.

Your choice is pretty simple. Either worry about it until it fails, or change out the switches and ATF. Two switches are under $100 and pretty easy to change (a bit harder and three switches for the Type S). plus a couple three quart fluid changes will cost $70.

It's a low cost, no risk shot at maybe saving your transmission. There are all kinds of threads on how to do it, and why. Good luck.

that equates to 221K miles and that is actually pretty good for an AT from those years
