TPMS Warning light

My TPMS warning light came on this morning for the 1st time ever. In all my TL's I have had I have never encountered this issue. All tire pressure is fine. The read out on the screen has a dash"__" where the pressure usually reads.

Anyone know what this means?

Just to give you a heads up. We had freezing rain over night and the temp outside is -3C or 26F.
I had a tire changed over a week ok, but I have had no issues all week.
The temp here has gone from extreme cold to -27C(-16F) to 0C(32F)

let me know, and thanks

Battery is located inside the TPMS

Have you tried swapping wheels around? That way we can eliminate the actual sensor for each side. The sensor that picks up the TPMS

So would a dead battery lead to the display on the MID with no pressure at any of the tires if one battery is dead?? or is this another issue?

Yes. I messed up one of my sensors by using fix-a-flat since i couldn't patch the tire right away. Replaced that sensor when i got new tires and all was fine until a few weeks ago. I'm assuming one of the batteries in another wheel have failed so i bought 3 new sensors. No more issues.... Tire Rack sells direct replacement sensors at a discount.

Amazing thanks. I will probably flip the sensor out once I put my Summer tires on.

Similar issue. I just swapped my Summer tires over today here in the Northeast. I have snow tires on my stock wheels with no sensors. I just look at the ( ! ) light all Winter and check tire pressure regularly. However, my Summer wheels have the sensors on them and when I filled up the tires, the " System Function Error" hasn't gone away. I did drive around a while with speeds up to 55mph trying to get the system to see the sensors again, to no avail. I'm getting dashes instead of pressure readings. These were all fine last Summer.....

I have this exact same issue. I even changed all 4 sensors, and I still have "system function error" even after an hour of driving. Did you get yours to work?

Mine is doing the same thing; the error message came on a week ago while driving on the highway. I just had the wheels balanced about a month ago. The error message disappeared for a couple days and then I noticed the rear right tpms sensor was displaying 400 kpi (Canadian model). The Check TPMS system error is back again and displaying "--" for all 4 wheels. Sounds like a bad tpms sensor battery.

If the sensors are aftermarket and not OEM, you'll more than likely need to get the new sensors "hooked up" to the car. Any competent tire shop should have the tool and expertise to do this. On my last TL, I went with aftermarket sensors and they wouldn't be picked up even after hundreds of miles until I took it to Discount Tire and they reprogrammed them, even though the aftermarket ones were labeled as plug and play.

Update: I borrowed a TPMS tool from the mechanic at my work today and found the rear right sensor is dead as I suspected. The other 3 check out fine. I'll source a new sensor and report back with an update after the install.

Note these are TRW aftermarket sensors and have been working with the car for ~ 2.5 summers.

Update#2: got the replacement tpms sensor (Dorman brand from Amazon) and had it installed. The sensor wouldn't register with the TPMS receiver that day. I used a code reader to clear the TPMS DTCs the following day as I read on here that they needed to be cleared before the new sensor could be registered with the vehicle. It wouldn't register that day either. The following day (day 3), the tpms error came back on the MID but on the next startup a few minutes later, the error on the MID cleared and the sensor registered. Weird... Glad it's working now though.
