Is too much oil bad for the car?
I got an oil change at my dealership a month ago and yesterday i was bored and decided to check my oil level. The oil thats supposed to be between the two marks on the dipping stick is way over that.
this is the stick:
-----------------------------------[ ]-
My oil level is here:
--------------------------------<--[ ]-
Is this bad or damaging for my engine? Im kinda lazy to take it back and i dont have the tools to do it at home. So if its ok id rather wait till the next oil change.

the level should be at the top mark- thats FULL- anything less is under full
Its fine to run 5 qts oil, that puts it a tick over the full mark

to much oil can cause foaming and other things. Its always good to run the right amount

1 quart or less over the line won't hurt a thing. I've always run mine that way for 67,000 miles. If there were a problem, I would know it by now. Remember, the dipstick goes in at an angle so even if it's half an inch high on the stick, it's maybe 1/4 to 3/8" high in the pan. Hardly enough to hurt anything. FWIW, I usually run 5.25-5.5 quarts. There's a huge margin of error, they have to compensate for things like cornering, hills, acceleration, braking which changes the level much more than an extra quart. Think about how much oil sloshes around during normal driving.
There is a plus to more capacity such as cooler oil and long change intervals.

Question: Is the amount over the top mark on the dipstick greater than the range from the lower mark to the upper mark?

Well, I did 6 qt my last oil change about a month ago... Actually my mechanic friend did it while I went to get lunch, he also put 10-30w...So I pretty much almost killed him, but it's ok... He knows his shit inside and out. But nevertheless, I just ordered RP, and I will redo it, this time myself.
PS... Don't forget the filter... I have the oversized S2000 oil filter.

^ Sure, if you count in the loss of mpg and the hesitation when punching the car from 5mph... I notice these things very easily. I don't care about the minor 2mpg loss, I care more about the hesitation, when the car holds 2K than lurches to 5K with a hesitation in between.... no good.
PS I know about the BS difference between the 10-30 and 5-20... Honda tried to cheat, and it worked, lol.

overfilling the car by a quart or more will result in the crank whipping up the oil..........
that is bad as it breaks down the oil quicker and that leads to engine wear
.5 or less I would not worry about it

There's no magic number, I can say from experience the crank does not touch the oil in the pan with even an extra quart in there. It's easy enough to check for yourself.

if you are 1/4 inch over full; leave it alone
If you are freaked go back to the dealer- but most likely they simply put in 5 qts and its a tick over.
Your diagram shows it being under full
The car does use a minute amount of oil between changes. A tick over will still be at full at 5000 miles!

undo the drain plug- allow excess to flow into a catch can- so you can see how much you remove-
stick the drain plug back in=-tighten to 29 foot pounds torque, thats tugged tight and a tap with the hammer to the wrench, if working on on your back
