TL wont shift out of park.

So my car bacially will not shift from park to anything. I have to stick a key into the shift release to make it work.

I did some searching and its definitley not my brake switch behind the pedal because I just got done replacing it and it didnt fix the problem. All brake lights do come on.

Could it be a fuse? If so which one?

Thanks

I'd think if it was a fuse, you would have lost anything else on that circuit as well. If everything else is working fine about the only thing left is the shift lock solenoid itself. Any chance someone might have spilled some soda on the console some time in the past? Everything would be fine for a while until the sticky mess attracted enough dirt and dust to gum up the solenoid. It should be easy enough to tell -- simply pop off the silver trim ring around the shifter and see if you see sticky soda residue underneath.

Today, it was the 2nd time, I've notice that my car while in "D" wouldn't go anywhere...

So, I've turned off the engine, and restarted and was back to normal...

I guess all these electronics are sometimes not as reliable as back those old days... where everything was mechanic..

Anybody had same situation as I had?

I had the exact same problem after coming back from an extended weekend where the car sat in the heat for the whole time. Prior, by a few months, a drink was spilled into the console, and as was mentioned above, the syrup and heat caused the solenoid to become gummed up. I got in to the console and cleaned everything up and that solved the problem.

I dont recall spilling anything at anytime. But its worth a look. How do you check the solenoid?

Anyone else know what may cause the the shift lock to not release once the brake is applied?

You'll find it. It's basically brake switch>wiring>solenoid.

Assuming the solenoid works off of 12v, you can take it out and apply 12v to it and see if it works. If there's a mechanical issue it should be obvious when you're in there.

Keep in mind most cars have adjustments on both the brake switch and solenoid.

Just to be clear. If its not the Brake switch or fuse #32. Would that make the culprit the solenoid?
