Have you tried adjusting the lumbar setting?

Upper back pain may be because your seated too far back from the wheel and your slouching forward. Also try adjusting your steering wheel position and drop into your chiro to see if upper back needs adjustment.

I too have trouble getting comfortable in the car. Two months now and I still can't get it right. I may have to pull the seat and do something to get it where I want it. In my Cobra, it has the power side boosters. I can't tell you how much those help my back and leg pains. It's amazing.

the seats will break in after a bit of driving, i'd say about 2 thousnd miles, thats what the mdx took me.

I get substantial back pains from my TL seats too. I have never had back problems before. I have 1800 miles on the car. I'm hoping the seats will break in soon and/or I will find an optimum setting. Worst case is I will have to trade the car in. This will be after several months of back aches as well as taking it in the shorts on depreciation! Too bad too because otherwise it's a great car (other than torque steer).

im kinda surprised that some have back pains in tl seats. i've always had bad back but when im driving, it's like therapy.
only prob for me is that it's so comfortable that i tend to doze off behind the wheel on commute home.
sitting up a little bit more might help, imo.

I had some trouble with long drives. About 3 weeks ago I adjusted the seat again before I made the return trip home.
I had the seat tilted too far back, once I leveled the seat a little no more problems.

What do you folks have your seats set up like? I have typically had mine with the bottom basically level and the back just a little bit off of straight and just a smidge of lumbar.
Then I read in another thread a suggestion that you have to let the seat cradle you. So today I set it so that the bottom is tipped up a bit in front and I leaned the seat-back a bit more too (not a lot really). I have driven trucks/SUV's the last 10 years so it feels kind of odd leaning back like that, not sitting bolt upright, but we'll see how it goes.

I think it depends on what car you were used to driving before the TL.
I've had mini-vans and suv's before my TL and my back killed me for at least a month. Between the different position and getting used to using my left foot again along with the firmer seats, I would always exit with a wicked back ache.
I finally got used to them and recently took an 8hr drive there and back with no problems. The trip was much more entertaining because I could whip around traffic on the busy Garden State Parkway where I am normally stuck in one lane with my Pilot.

Do yourself a favor and find a good upholstery shop. They can add padding
or take out padding depending on what you want. I work next door to
one and see them working on people's car seats all the time. Before you
get rid of the car, bring it to a good upholstery shop and tell them your problem.

Take advantage of the tilt/telescoping steering wheel to get the best position.

I was having problems getting comfy in the TL seats as well. The side bolster was digging into my left leg and my butt was getting sore from the seams in the seat bottom. Solution....Wal-Mart sells a NICE gel style seat cushion with a black cover that fits the TL perfectly. It's in their automotive section and sells for around $18. The inside of the cushion looks similar to this pic but not as thick.
The result is pure bliss! What I do is have it about half way on the seat with about half of it hanging off the seat towards the front of the car. The part that hangs over you can tuck neatly into the plastic part of the seat frame in front. So, my butt sits partly on the orginal seat and partly on the cushion while my thighs are totatly on the cushion. This sort of cradles me in the seat. Hard to explain but it solved my problem.
Also, since the cover is black and I have ebony interior it blends perfectly.

I have a herniated disc in my back, and sitting in the TL is as comfortable as anything I've ever sat in. I keep the rear of the seat fully lowered, I tip up the front of the seat slightly, then adjust the back almost straight up, with little recline. Also, I dial in max lumbar support. Using more lumbar support might seem uncomfortable at first, but for my back, it gives support to the lower spine where my disc has been injured. Just make sure you don't tilt the front part of the seat up too far or you might cut off circulation to your thighs.

I think I have figured out my problem. The bottom of the seat does not extend out far enough in the front. My thighs are completely off the seat and feel like they are dangling....

Try tilting the seat backward so the front of the seat supports your thighs.
Or look into a 06 BMW 3 Series with the Sport package. They have adjustable thigh support.
I'm totally the opposite. I used to be able to get comfortable in my 3000GT but after driving the TL I cannot get comfortable in it again.
