TL-S switchback problem

I purchased switchbacks from V-LEDS for my friends TYPE-S. They are the 1157 bulb and 60 SMD LEDs. After about an hour of them being on (heated up), when the turn signal comes on it starts to slowly change to V1, mind you these are the V2s. V-LEDs keeps sending me new ones and telling me its probably a bad production line and so on. Anyone else with this problem?

I think Steven Bell had a similar issue. Check with him, but IIRC he needed to install an additional component besides the resistors.

Im just going to bring this thread back as I am having the same problem. Did the problem ever get figured out? I will be contacting v-leds soon but as I've been busy coming and going so much haven't had a chance. I rather not deal with sending and receiving bulbs if there is a different problem that is needed to get this fixed. What ever happened with your bulbs?

They kept telling it was a bad batch and couldn't figure it out but apparently knew of the problem because he told me they kept getting returned. They keep selling them though because they fit the older TL's and other vehicles.

Ack, I did have this problem. I got mine via AutoLumination. Mine would burn out or become dim on the amber side. I went through 3 sets before I got some that finally worked. The bulbs are a good concept, but not great in execution.

Are you referring to the delay in between flashing amber and turning back to white? Mine is about 2 seconds to turn back to white. This happens regardless of whether or not they've been running for a while or I just started the car. I thought this was normal so I never thought much about it.

Mine started doing this as well after a while of usage. Mine are V2 from Vled's. They blink amber with a little white "strobe" effect between blinks (make since?). I have not contacted Vleds since I didn't keep my reciept or anything. I purchased these about 3 months ago, think they would still help me out?

This is what mine do. White they are fine. When I use blinker they work fine and after a while they will blink orange - white - orange - white kind of like the strobe effect. Not always but most of the time.

I have vleds v2 as well.

Anyone have a better switchback light that works flawlessly.

I have the .12 resistor soldered in my relay so I do not have hyperflashing problems.

I have fought/talked with them for a while about this how they should use the 48 SMD, not the 60 SMD because its too much and causes this problem. First guy told me it was a bad production and sent me another set, but they did the same thing...

Then after a while they gave up and said well IDK, its because they still fit other cars and work so they don't care to fix any problem..

I thought about just calling them up and seeing if they will swap me out for the v1, since thats what I originally wanted. I am afraid if they send me new v2's they are just going to malfunction like the ones I already have.

Ey guys I recently installed my switchbacks too and it does the same thing! Seems like when they get hot or been on for a while it has that strobe effect when the turn signals are turned on! I have the clef v2's also! Anothe issue I have is that when I turn on my HID fogs my switchbacks turn off an then maybe 15 seconds the driver side turns back on and te followed by the passenger side! Seems like the HID is drawing too much power while igniting! Has anyone come across this problem too? I have an 08 TLS!

Yup - bumping an old thread but it's still relevant. I'm having the same issue ..did anyone ever find a fix for this other than switching to Tritons? I'm using a .22 resistor on the relay.

I thought about trying these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-1157-BAY15D-Switchback-60-SMD-LED-Parking-Turn-Signal-Lights-Bulbs-/121120314667?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c3355552b&vxp=mtr but it may just be more of the same junk.

Thanks,
Jon

Hey I have a 2010 TL and I have the same issue you are referring to. I'm not sure what is is but seems like when I turn my fogs on, the switchback turns off. I have a wire harness for my HID fogs so they get power directly from the battery. Did you get this issue fix? How?

I still have this issue and and I also went to a .22 ohm resistor. I tried rear LED lights and everything got worse.

I am going to try and find some 48 smd switchbacks. A lot of people have been having good luck with the ebay ones from what I hear.

Let me know what route you go. I may try the ebay ones ...they're about $8 so nothing really lost if they don't work out.

Just an update ...the ebay bulbs came in today and are absolute GARBAGE! The first bulb detached from the base and is just being held on by the + and - wires and with both bulbs it is impossible to see the amber turn signal indicator. The white leds stay on during turn signal operation and are nice and bright but the amber leds are extremely dim and not visible. I contacted the seller to see what's going on.

edit - these are the bulbs I purchased: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370627781985?viewitemversion=&item=370627781985&view=all&tid=482997074024&vxp=mtr

I just installed the newer V-leds switchbacks. The white is whiter than the older ones I purchased couple years ago.
The amber still looks good.
They make the other bulbs look blue for sure.

I didn't notice any problems initially. I will have to drive around with the lights on for a while to see if my problem remains or has been fixed.

I did notice however that the new lights have a different led light on them. With only 1 spec per board rather than the 3 per board of the older style. I am curious if that was pulling more from my system to get hotter and cause issues????

I really don't know what was causing it but I really do hope this solves my problem. Will have an update in about a week when I can get some time in with them.
But the V-leds V2 switchbacks were 24.99 on sale last week so I am not out anything if they end up being the same issue.
