Exclamation Tires Locking Up ?!? 08 TL 3.2

Afternoon,

Last week I had a little fun in the mud on a dirt road going to a friends house. No biggie- well I decided this weekend I would wash my car inside & out and under the hood. Did this on saturday evening for about 4 hours. I didnt do anything out of the regular with the products I use or anything. I backed my TL in the garage and left it. I didnt drive it Sunday. I got in it this morning to head to work, and the back tires were locked up. I wouldnt budge. Any ideas? Known probelm? Acura said it can happen if the car sits. I mean it sat one day. And has set for longer periods of time before when Im on business trips or vacations. I dont understand. I fianlly hit the gas hard, something popped in the rear, and it started moving.

Ready to see if when I leave the office its locked up again.

I called Acura, and they said its can be normal. If it happens again, bring it in.

Its a 2008 TL 3.2 with 38k miles.

Doesn't sound normal to me. Was your emergency brake on?

No thats what I thought. Its what it felt like. It kinda bogged down, and was grinding. I did have them adjust my parking break on my last trip to Acura, it felt like it was catching.

just throwing an idea out there:
maybe the rust from the wash made your rotors and brake pads stuck for a bit somehow.

maybe- thats a good idea. i know i didnt a tire cleaner, rim clear, and scubbed all in behind the front of the rims, getting all that break dust cleaned.

*** HATE clean front rims, but dirty back sides!!! LOL

Water/dirt/mud probably got inside the rotor hat and when solidified kept the wheel from turning.

You've got the standard brakes which can freeze at the slider pins in the caliper or the piston. Then there's the e-brake which is a drum brake and can collect water and dirt inside and freeze up. Drums are self energizing (which is the reason they don't hold well in reverse) and all it takes is a little dirt between the shoe and drum and you end up with a frozen wheel.

It happens to me all the time after washing and parking the car in the garage. It is the brake shoes not retracting when you release the parking brake. Not sure exactly why it does this but it's never caused me any issues. I washed the car yesterday so it happened leaving this morning. Has to have something to do with water getting in the parking brake because it only happens after spraying the car with water and not every time I wash or drive the car thru rain.

If it's the parking brake, you might be able to free it by hitting reverse.

that was the idea, only probelm, was that i was backed into the garage- haha, didnt wanna blow thru the back wall!

but we got it moved far enough, that we were back to back it up and pop it loose. my garage floor is ceremic tiled, so it slid easy, just lots of squeeling!

I always back out of the garage so the restriction is less noticeable when it happens.
