Tinting windows
So I finally tinted my 07 TL, the guy tinting the car said he had to trim off part of the rubber at the top of the doors because over time if dirt or sand gets in, it will scratch the tint. Now that the rubbers are trimmed, the inside cabin noise has increased. So I'm thinking about ordering the orignal rubbers back and installing them and taking my chances with scratches. Has anybody heard of this situation before or has had their tint scratched by the rubbers? I've had different opinions but I only trust my Acura brothers and sisters.

He should have never trimmed them without your prior approval, period. It's not his car and he shouldn't have done modifications. Not that it really matters but what did this shop charge you for the tinting?

Damn the guy gave me both options and I paniced and choose the cut option.....so you guys think by getting the orignal rubber and putting felt around it is the better option?
Thanks...this is why I love this site. No BS.

Moleskin is a brand. its a fancy name for felt that has adhesive on one side. it sticks to the window trim/seal/blade.
my tinter, did not want to be liable for tearing into my door panel.
I did it myself. I bought some felt, took apart my door panel. there will be a weather trim/blade/seal. I wrapped this trim with felt.

My tinter did give me two strips of "moleskin"
I could not for the life of me get it to line up properly. kinda like when you're taping up presents for holidays and the tape sticks to everything. I did get it on, and used it for a couple of days, but i found that the adhesive was coming off and onto my windows..and I would get streaky adhesive marks up and down....
said fuck it, and went to a crafts store to get a yard of felt.

my tinter did the same..
said he cut a small piece. I don't notice any difference in noise at all and the tint shop I went to is HIGHLY recommended. I paid 180 for llumar atr.

My tint guy did the moleskin and guaranteed the tint job for the life of the car. And yes it covers the moleskin. Mind you I paid $350 for my tint but it's an amazing job. This guy does the high end cars in the Seattle / Bellevue area. http://accutintnw.com/ if you live in the Seattle area.

The guy that did the work didn't know what he was talking about. You should never trim the rubber gaskets. You install Moleskins to the insides of the gaskets so that the rubber doesn't grip the tint.

Some auto glass shops will do the felt for you too. It may cost more that doing it yourself, but if you're uncomfortable tearing off your door panels, it's an option. It's worth it though to save the life of your tint, especially if you got it done properly and want it to last.

^^^ Eventually the tint will scratch, even with moleskin. It's just a matter of time unless you pop your door panels off every couple of months and clean the felt... Taking the door panel off to get to the rubber is simple, takes less than 2 minutes. Only 4 screws and you just pop it off.
But if you're gonna clean it every couple of months, might as well not even bother with the moleskin. If you have quality tint and you clean the rubbers every few month you'll be ok.

Yeah I'm doing my best to keep it clean, and even with moleskin I'm noticing tiny thin spiderweb-like vertical lines, especially on the back windows. The drivers side window is the only one not scratching *knocks on wood* and I use it the most. go figure...

so you're saying there's no way in hell we can stop the tints from scraping with the rubber within the door? lol ahhh dammit. Mine looks like if it was attacked my a bear or something or a mouse trying to get out of a mouse trap.
