Timing belt???
Timing belt???
Hi I recently purchased a tl, it had 114k at the time of purchase, and now has 118k, im wondering, though it may be impossible, if their is anyway to tell if the timing belt was replaced at the recommended 105k, I purchased it from a dealer, and the previous owner kept no service records, I just don't want to drop the 700 bucks to get a new one, if not necessary
I don't think there's any way to be certain that the belt was changed. If you bought the car at the dealer, they should have had the carfax available to look at. Did it show up on there? I'd assume most people that are going to trade in their car a little after 100k aren't going to get the 105k service done since it's a big cost and doesn't really add to the trade in value because the dealer couldn't care less.
I'd say just bite the bullet and get it done. Better to pay $700 and be safe for another 100,000 miles than to live in fear of your engine getting ruined every time you drive. Did you not know about this before you bought the car? I was ignorant to it myself because I had never owned a Honda and failed to do my research before buying the car. Only spent about $550 for the timing belt and water pump though.
P.S. DO NOT get this done at the dealer, unless there is some deal going on. Find an independent shop and you will save half your money. My Honda dealer wanted $1500 for timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs. Found an independent shop to do all that including air filters for about $700.
