Can't believe. My 2009 RDX has only 900miles on it and got this message yesterday after work. The message was gone when I start the car this morning. I'll see if it come back again.
I googled. It happened to so many Acura's (tl,tsx etc.). Why Acura doesn't want to fix this problem.

So is replacing the purge control valve the solution? I realize this is an old thread but wanted to see if this was the answer now that it's 2013. My 08 TL Type S started doing this about a few months back and now seems to do it twice every gas fill up. Thanks for any reply.

Did it for me.

I have a randomly surging idle I can live with and originally thought the fuel cap error was due to PnP work (vacuum leak). After reading this thread it appears many TL-S's are prone to this issue.
I've reset it for now and if it comes back I'll take to the stealership since it's under extended warranty. They've already said the fuel cap isn't covered under extended warranty.

Why are you guys just throwing parts in? If your purge valve is having issues you would of got a code for it. best thing I can suggest is if your out of warrenty is to get it smoke tested to see if the evap system has a leak and then monitor the FTP ( fuel tank pressure sensor ). Because that's what tells the computer that you didn't close the cap properly and turns on the light on the dash. I see too many customers that spend money " trying " parts to solve a problem. Been a mechanic too long and seen people replace starters over bad ground. Get it checked people cause you might drive the same car, have the same light doesn't mean it's the same issue.
PS: some dealers don't smoke test because they don't have the equipment. Believe It or not.
