Ticking noise in engine fuse box

I drove my car to run errands this morning (2005 TL)Everything OK. I went to the post office and parked in an unplowed lot (11 inches of snow in upstate NY). When I left, I did not put on my seatbelt (easier to look around for other vehicles in the snow). I started driving and noticed the seatbelt reminder was not displayed. Made a couple of other stops and returned home.

About five hours later, I went to start my car and it was dead. When I turn the key, some lights/indicators appeared on the display, but the car would not turn over. I heard a ticking noise from the engine. I opened the hood and the ticking noise came from the fuse box. Also, the dome lights were blinking in sequence with the ticking sound.

I tried jumping the car. Nothing.

When I unpluged one of the cables from the battery terminal, the ticking stopped. When I put the cable back on, the ticking resumed.

I called my Acura dealership and the response was "bring the car in". Hard to do at 4:30pm on a Saturday when the car doesn't start and the dealership closes at 5:00pm. So I thought I would try to resolve it myself.

I tried searching this forum, but did not find a similar issue.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

You need a new battery. I had the same syptom with a Honda Pilot. Honda batteries can die 2-3 years. Try a jump, if it works, it's the battery. Just know that when you turn off the car, it likely will be dead again. You can go to an AutoZone and they will test and replace the battery. You may have a pro-rated price for a new battery if you take it to the dealer.

uhhh... that could be your car starter, buddy.

The dash lights are a code for the service tech to know what is wrong with the vehicle (honda's do this usually when there's a bad alternator or starter...)

Do you have a voltmeter? If so, you can check the voltage across your battery by putting the red and black terminals to their respective probes and making sure you're at 11.0-12.4 volts....

same problem, please help

Hello, I have the exact same problem with my 2002 3.5 RL (lights were left on, battery is completey dead, except for the main fuse box is ticking, if I take the head light relays out, the ticking moves to the smaller fuse boxes next to the radiator).

Could you please let me know how your problem was fixed? I need to pick the car up today from where it is stranded, any help would be wonderful.

thanks.
