Those with the shifter rattle issue...

I replaced the shifter trim or garnish because it had a few scratches and it squeaks and rattles like crazy especially going down the freeway. I would push down on it and it would go away for a few seconds to a few minutes but it always quickly came back. If it did not have scratches already I probably would have pulled it off to try and fix the noise but I wanted to replace it.

This is probably common knowledge to some but it has felt on the back side which gets flattened out over time causing plastic on plastic rubbing and the noise you hear. To fix it without spending any money would be as easy as glueing more felt onto the backside to take up the gap. So far with the new one, zero noise but you could easily do it for free.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am having the same problem. I used felt to insulate the inside edges of the trim ring, where it contacts the shifter but no luck. Before I replace the trim, I am going to remove the factory felt and replace it with my own. How much was the trim ring and do you happen to have a part number?
