Testing a HID ballast and igniter/inverter
Testing a HID ballast and igniter/inverter
Is it possible to test a ballast and/or igniter/inverter using a multi-meter (ohm meter)? I am having a problem with the driver side HID lamp staying lit on my 05 TL. I leave the headlight switch on the steering column in the ON position. On most occasions when I start the car the driver side HID lamp will light up. The problem is if I have to turn the car off and back on soon after first starting the car (or switch the lights off and back on soon after starting the car) the driver side HID lamp will not always light up. The lamp is brand new so the problem HAS to be either the igniter/inverter and/or the ballast. I have an old ballast and igniter/inverter that I want to test before putting them on the car. Is there a way to do this?
I wouldn't test with a multimeter, just flip it from one side of the car to the other to rule out the suspect part. My money is on the ballast.
Testing with a multimeter is ridiculously dangerous because we are talking kilovolts in output when the ballast fires up.

I wouldn't test with a multimeter unless you live dangerously! Your best bet and safest way is to swap them from side to side.
If you narrow it down and need parts, I have one extra ballast and 2 ignitors left if you would want to go the used part way. Came out of an 05 like yours.
Let me know! I can ship it out when ever.
