Suggestions on wheel noise

So I have an odd sound that has been occurring on my 04 TL with 206,000 miles. You folks are always helpful, so I thought I would ask you. Occassionally when I drive close to a guard rail or enclosed space, I hear a sound from the front driver's side wheel. It is like a, "sss, sss, sss" that is revolving. The rate increases with speed and after a long braking session (down a mountain) it is more noticeable/audible. I checked the caliper recently, and the dust boot seemed to be crooked and out of place. It didn't want to adjust back properly at all. The brake pads have 50% left on them and the wear indicators are not contacting the rotor. They also are not unevenly worn or worn more on one side. Could it it be the wheel bearing has metal shavings in it from wear? The sound is more/less audible depending on how I drive. The pads are aftermarket (Advance Auto), and I can somewhat hear the pad material contacting the rotor when I stop (similar to the revolving sound). A while ago, I had to replace the rear calipers and it started off as a sound like this that was elusive right before they locked. What do you think AZ? Thanks!

If this happens during braking, it could be your pads interacting with the rotors. I had a high pitched noise with some aftermarket pads with some EBC dimpled rotors that was solved by changing to OEM pads (Honda Pilot). If the noise happens with no braking, I would begin to suspect a bearing or axle.

That seems to be the case. It is such a mixed bag. I'm not sure what the normal sounds of a worn axle or bearing are though.

Could be the clips holding the brake pads rubbing on the rotors or even the back plate rubbing on the rotors, had this same issue a month ago, I bent back the back plate a little off the rotor and never heard that sound again.

I have the solution

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I figured out the source when I jacked up the car and spun the rear wheels. The parking brake shoes were out of adjustment. They have been adjusted and the sound is gone. Odd solution, huh?
