Subwoofer Rattle

Hey guys

My 05 TL has a subwoofer rattle. It just developed.

I pulled the trunk liner down and the rattle is coming the from sub area. it's not by the rear vents. I also tried pushing down on subwoofer grill on the inside of the car but it's still making a noise. I have no idea what else could be causing the rattle.

Any ideas?

The rattle is VERY loud by the way. I cranked the volume up to 20 and it sounds like the sub is about to break

and yes I searched but couldn't find a solution!

Update...

I found out that it's the sub vibrating against that plastic cage/holder that holds the sub. I was able to stick in some paper towels and MUCH better. However, it still rattles a bit.

Anyone know what I could use instead of paper towels that would stop some of the rattling?

Soooo, from what i gather from the op, and from my experience, the rattle is coming from neither of these sources(which seem to be two fixes for the same problem). I have already fixed the rattle from the plastic J clip under the trunk light, which solved the problem for over a year. My rattle seems to be coming from the sub itself, or the general area of the sub. Any ideas? the dealer said it could be the clips holding the rear deck in place but it doesnt seem to be coming from that area.

i had similar issue... one thing i did with one of my former TLs was stick velcro (soft side) along the area where the edge of the rear cover behind the rear seats meets the bottom of the rear windshield. that did an amazing job of reducing vibration style noises.
