Struggling to Start
It sounds to me like your starter is shot. It probably has a bad spot on the commutator which is why its intermittently cranking like that. It's possible its the solenoid, but I would vote unlikely since its cranking fairly strong when its working. A replacement 'starter' should come with both.
If that's not it, something is really screwed up.

Make sure all grounding straps (if any) are tightened down firmly. This sounds like a ground fault. A friend of mine had a similar issue with his '05 TL and there was a grounding strap that wasn't tightened down all the way. Check everything over and tighten any ground straps you see, and see if that fixes the issue. Let us know how you get on.

Yeah, I suppose that would be a fairly strong possibility given the recent work.
Someone just needs to give it a once over. It's likely the starter, or power to the starter.
It does not sound like the starter has any alignment problems. You can hear the while while it winds down while you're holding the key in the start position. Sure sounds to me like the starter is not spinning while the engine is not cranking.

These newer cars are made mostly with aluminum, and when it gets cold aluminum tends to shrink/contract/get smaller. Heat makes it expand. And aluminum is NOT a good conductor as it is, and that's why I say that it could potentially be a ground fault.

Hi Trish,
This brings back memories. I used to have a 93 civic SI and I had a similar starting issue.
Long story short, I had to replace the flywheel because some of the teeth broke off.
The starter spins the flywheel but if teeth are missing it wont catch on that part and would make that same groaning noise.

since flywheel work was done, did the dude make sure everything is back in alignment? take the starter off and look at the bendix, do your starter teeth show abnormal wear?
Also, it is NORMAL for a car to take longer to start in the winter time as the battery and starter have to work harder to turn that pop sickle over. Have

I am dropping her off today for a new starter. I took her to the shop Friday and of course after the 25 mile drive she started up perfectly each time. They checked straps, wires, grounds everything and said they want to keep her overnight tonight and swap the starter tomorrow.
