If you were happy with the bass level before, then just get a new stock sub. If not, now's the time to get a box and amp for the trunk!

or buy an aftermarket upgraded sub that fits into the stock compartment.

the stock sub according to crutchfield is a: 40watt 8" woofer.

Grab yourself a nice aftermarket 8" woofer and install in place.

Is the stock amplifier enough to power a higher RMS rated sub? If not, you're essentially going to get the same sound, maybe a little bit more out of it.

If the stock sub is rated at 40W, I can't imagine the factory amp, whether it's part of the head unit or not, to be able to push any more.

true but cant hurt to have more power available...

plus you could always splice in an amp for that sub

Is it distortion you hear or the notorious rear deck rattle? Mine rattled like crazy, I stuffed a shop towel under the rear deck and no more rattle.

Read over stock replacement sub threads and you'll see a bunch of unhappy people. It's not worth throwing a sub in the stock location. It will never have much bass and the deck will rattle like crazy.

Search through this forum, several of us have some pretty nice systems. I have a sound quality setup and I run a pair of 16" subs infinite baffle so 90% of my trunk is still usable and it sounds absolutely amazing plus it will get very loud and low of needed.

ditto... a lot of the TLs have the rear deck rattle... make sure it is actually the speaker before you spend money.

On the other hand, if it is the sub, you can always go this route... mine wasnt blown, but I kept it for mids and added this

is this still the case?
most people recommend keeping the sub OEM and just stuff shop towels in the deck for the vibration?

So did you wire from hi level input from stock sub amp? Where did you run power ground and remote? I like the idea of this and get one for my 2010 TL. How is the bass? What kind of music do listen to?

Thanks.
