Steering Wheel Emblem chrome delamination issue

I have an 05 with the emblem in the middle of the steering wheel that is a nice nasty yellow plastic color now with a hint of chrome/metallic around the edges.
Every time I get into the car this thing just glares at me and defies me to figure out a solution to the issue. I have considered just using a black sharpie marker to at least cover the yellow nastiness for now. I saw the plastidip threads and it seems to work well on exterior emblems, not sure how it would do on the steering wheel cover.

Also, in the back of the mind... this is 'quite near' the airbag, so I don't want to do anything that would degrade the cover if at all possible.

Any one else have this issue? Or did the previous owner of my car just drive with his hands on the horn all the time.

BB.
