Steering rack fluid
Steering rack fluid
I noticed I am leaking a little fluid from the bellows boot, not like through a tear, but at where the bellows band sits. But afaik, there shouldn't be fluid circulating inside the bellows boot anyways. I replaced my inner tie rods couple weeks ago, so naturally I had the bellows boot off. Is there supposed to be fluid at the circled area?
I'm pretty sure there isn't, it's probably leaking from a seal it's pretty common.
Mine is slowly leaking from #6 in the picture above and is probably originating from a seal in the top of the rack, I have yet to get around to it :/
I think you have to drop the subframe a little to get the rack out as well. Sounds intimidating but may actually be easy, don't really know, I've done a ton of other things to the car at this point though so will probably give it a shot eventually.
Another thing on the list ugh .. my AC has been out for a while now too, just blows hot air Firestone has a $20 diagnostic service, hopefully they can tell me what's wrong and then I'll just fix it myself. I'm 'hoping' it's just a compressor clutch and not the entire system, I already tested the relay and field coil and they both tested good. At least the field coil 'clicked' for whatever that is worth.

I've changed my own timing belt, is the steering rack job harder than that or easier? it looks like it should be easy, the part that looks hard is finding a way to get it out without dropping the subframe
At least could do the FSB bushings or swap it out when doing this job as well.
Maybe someone with experience with this can chime in, but I'm almost certain you have to lower the subframe in order to get to the mounting bolts on the rack.
