Steering Column rattle (when st wheel is locked into place only)
So, I have a small rattle when I go over bumps coming from the steering column.
The rattle goes away if I pull down the steering wheel adjustment lever and leave it down to where the steering wheel is movable. Once I lock it in place, the rattle returns.
Any ideas?
I'm going to take it to the dealer to fix, but would like to give them some ideas before they just start ripping things apart and causing more problems than they fix.
Thanks in advance.
PS. I'm not mad. I still love this car!

Sounds exactly like mine.

I think when you fully lock the adjusting lever there is less give (damping) in the column so you hear the rattle. I typically only here it on harsh roads when the interior is cold.

Haven't been to the dealer yet. Car's only got 1700 mi. If it gets bad enough I'll have it dealt with. If my suspicions are correct the cold winter weather in the NE will make it worse and then I'll deal with it.
