Steering click-is this normal?

i just recently started getting a tick/click of sorts when i turn my steering wheel (its not an axle issue). it's similar to the sound of when the turn signal gets disengaged. its not loud and it does not affect the steering/turning of the car.

this started soon after my power steering fluid was replaced at the dealer (it was dirty) this week.

my car NEVER did this before. i have heard it in loaners and thought it was normal for the AT, but now since my car has this tick when i'm at a slow turn around corners or in parking lots, the noise is starting to bother me. seems t ohappen more when i turn Rt. vs Lt.

tell me this is NOT normal. and what could be the problem? and the consequences. thanks.

Have you been driving the car since? I flushed my power steering last wknd and had some weird noises after. It went away the next day though. First, i'd pull the reservoir cap and look if there are any air bubbles in it.

i have driven the car since...about 4 times this week...and it ticks. doesn't happen everytime i turn, but enough for me to notice.

i did take a look into the PS reservoir...nothing out of the ordinary. they did fill it to just over the max fill line if that matters any.

Possibly something is worn in the turn signal assembly, certainly not normal, but here is a thread from the TSX Forum:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tsx-problems-fixes-145/turning-steering-wheel-makes-clicking-noise-772945/

Daughter's Grand Cherokee developed this problem and the cancel cam ring needed replacement, but there was a TSB from Chrysler.

turbo-it happens with or without the turn signal being on. and why would it happen right after a flush?

i read that thread too, but wanted to know if 3G peeps had this issue. dont' we have a different mechanism for our PS? the newer acura's are electric aren't they?

Yes, if there is a problem within the signal/cancelling assembly it will click when the wheel is turned, with or without the signal lights activated. On the daughter's Jeep it started out rather quiet, but one could hear it whenever the wheel was turned, and at the end, it sounded as if someone was striking a metal object when turning the wheel. If you placed a hand around the column you could even feel the vibration.

I would also assume, whether mechanical or electric PS, the signal cam asembly would be of similar design.

Never had a TL column apart, so not certain as to the parts involved, and am on vacation in Florida so no FSM available.

ok apparently this is only happening when i have the turn signal on. never heard this noise before nonethless. so turbo...you're probably right. anyone else have a tick in their steering column WITH their turn signal on? and is this normal? my SA said it could be the cable reel, but they would need to hear it to confirm it. the part is less than $20. the labor will most likely be an arm and a leg.

6 yrs of ownership...never heard this before.

spoke with SA, says its most likely the cable reel in the steering wheel that is worn. the noise will only get worse with time. he said its nothing major, but just annoying with the click. so i'm going to monitor it and get it fixed when it comes time for the next oil change. if it gets really annoying...i'll get it taken care of sooner.

if anyone else has ideas feel free to chime in.

is yours coming from the outside of the car or in your cabin? loud clicks with turns can be from bad CV joints. its almost like a knocking noise.

mine is actually coming from inside the car from the steering wheel area, like a plastic ticking noise.
