Starter "gasket" replacement necessary?

I need to replace my starter and service manual says I need a new gasket.

Is it really necessary or can I reuse it, like the transmission fill gasket?

Car is 2007 3.2 Automatic

IMO: Depends. If, it's metal, no problem. If it's paper composition, maybe. If, it can be removed, without damaging it, there is normally no reason, it can't be re-used. Even if it's composition type material, Honda gaskets are usually well made, and perfectly reusable. It may take some (FINESSE), with a putty knife type tool, in case it's stuck, to one of it's mating surfaces. Honda, rarely uses sealant, on their gaskets.
