Sputtering and hesitation under load
Sputtering and hesitation under load
My sons 2006 TL has about 175,000 miles. Replaced coil packs and plugs maybe 9,000 miles ago if that.
just the other day he said it was sputtering and bogged down when trying to accelerate from a stop. I drove it and yes same thing.
Code scanner said misfire cylinder 1 and 4, as well as air intake leak and O2 sensor problems ( air intake ans O2 codes have been there since we got the car about 12,000 miles ago). We had replaced both front O2 sensors at the time of purchase, amyhow this is new issue.
swpped coil packs 1 and 2 and 4 and 5, no change and misfire codes didn’t move with the coil packs. I checked all the plugs ( not NGK btw), 2 had gaps of like 0.080 instead of thr 0.044, but otherwise looked good. I fixed those. Test coil packs by running engine and lifting coil back off the plug and for every one , the engine ran rough.
I was thinking vacuum leak. I hear a hissing sound over down by the back valve cover, air intake, MAF area. Inspected all hoses all looks good and right.
with the engine running, I sprayed carb cleaner over vacuum lines, head gasket area valve cover areas. No change in RPMs.
I am out of ideas, can anyone help??

Would that cause the sputtering? The guy we bought it from had an after market K&N type of air cleaner on there. and it had come off for a while unbeknowst to me. There was just the accordian tube with no aircleaner, no sputtering then.
