SportsShift not down shifting
Hi, I just traded my '04 TSX for a 04 TL with less mileage. Today I tried using the SportsShift mode but noticed that the car didn't want to shift down. Does anyone think this is a problem with the transmission?
Thanks!
Thanks!

here is the owner manual link- click the year for your car then TL
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
It will explain how the SS works up and downshifting- the operation of 1st to 2nd gear in SS, the speed limits for upshift and downshifting in each gear etc.
If the computer decides you will overrev in a requested downshift- it flashes the number of the gear asked for- then displays the gear it is staying in. Reduce speed and try again
If you cant get SS to work at all- there are 3 microswitches under the shifter- if soda or other liquid gets in there- bad news for the small part.
Check the provisions of the warranty coverage on that issue
Make sure to register the TL with acura too- and store the radio nav codes there

For example, if I'm doing 40 mph and I am in 4th gear, 2,000rpm, and I try to downshift to 3rd gear, the car won't let me, it'l just stay in fourth. And if I floor it, it'll stay in fourth.

In SS, regardless of how you treat the accelerator and brakes, the TL will not shift when the SS is in gears 2-5-- you can only shift using the shifter, and the gears will not change up to redline.

When I'm in "D", if I floor it when it's in 4th, the car will downshift to 3rd. So, I think it is a SS problem, not a transmission problem.
Thanks

Where do you people come up with this nonsense!
in SS- when you move the shifter you trigger a signal from one of the 3 microswitches
You can SS shift up at any rpm- not--- must take it to redline!
Downshifts are computer limited to prevent ovverrev
A read of the owner manual gives max up and downshift speeds
https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp
click your year then model
OP needs to test drive another car- then take theirs to the dealer

Maybe I was unclear.
In SS, upshifts and downshifts only occur using the shifter from gears 2-5. Using the throttle will not result in a change of gears in SS mode like it would in "D" mode. [One exception- for the '04-'06 TL, the trans will shift from 1-2 automatically even in SS mode.]

Hope it's under warranty or inexpensive.
