A-Spec spoiler lifting

My TL was bought early July in 2006. The A-Spec kit was installed by the dealer and this spring/summer the decklid spoiler started to lift in the centre on HOT days... whenever the temp went over 20 degrees Celcius the middle would lift.

This pic is from a 38 degrees Celcius day. It looked terrible.

I removed the two nuts inside the trunk and to remove the really sticky double sided tape remaining on the spoiler I used a product called Tri-Flow (a lubricant). It came off with some force. I cleaned off the tape with a utility knife and then applied my 3M double sided tape (holds 2lbs per square inch). I only put a strip down the whole centre and then a strip on the sides... it used almost the whole roll of tape. It's much wider than the original tape and much much sticker.

I stuck it back on in the original place and tightened the nuts.... Good as new and you cant even tell I took it off!

I had the same thing happen i installed mine like 5 months and just a few weeks ago i noticed it was lifting on the right side, i also cleaned the crap out of the surface with isopropyl alcohol during first install. So after alot of pulling and some prying i got took the lip off and peeled off all the original tape and retaped the whole spoiler with new 3m tape and stuck it back on. Like you said you cant even tell that you took it off, and without any damage. I just hope it will stick alot longer!

thanks for the post guys, mine is starting to loosen on the right side, I didn't know that they were also bolted on ... I thought it was only the wing with the bolts.

At least it won't fly off while I am cruisin' on the highway. Cool, I'll get some 3M tape soon and see what happens ... asta! Oh yeah, mine lasted almost three years and is still under warranty I think.
