So, I don't know if all Acura TLs sound like this, but I just bought a 2004 and when I accelerate, it makes a whining noise much like that of a supercharger. It definitely isn't supercharged What might be the problem, or is this normal? The car is (as far as I know, I just got it Friday) completely stock.

might be the tranny, i know sometimes the gears will make a whistling noise kind of like a SC, that doesnt neccessarily mean the tranny is going bad. i had a rebuilt tranny put into one of my cars and it made that sound from the moment i started drivign it and it lasted another 100K Miles

 

Mines makes that wine noise also, 05 with 70K miles. It only does that when I'm going below 30 mph. Maybe I should take it in since I have extended power-train warranty.

Does it come thru the speakers or from the engine compartment?

Does it do it when your in park? Revving the engine

 

The power steering pump has also been known to whine. If it does it even in park or neutral then it's likely not the tranny.

 

But it's definitely not normal? Like, not all TLs do this?

so whe question is now, do you hear it while in park as well as accelerating, also do you hear it while turning. If you hear it clearly during all those times, chnces are its more the power steering pump. If you only hear it while accelerating then its most likely your tranny.

it is true, not all cars make the noise. But like i said before it doesn't neccessaril mean that the tranny is going bad, but if its the PS pump then i would get it looked at soon.

Hey gofasttl93, I realized that I posted my related whine issue on your thread without thinking twice. Since I had somewhat of the same whine issue I just posted right into your thread with the quickness and I apologize if you feel that I . And thank you everyone for the replies, I will have to look deeper into this whine issue.

 

I hear it all those times, also it's tough to turn the steering wheel sometimes when I'm barely moving. Thinking its power steering :/

 

all TL's are tough when not moving.
does it whine when you turn the steering wheel?

 

Alternators can make a whining noise when worn out, and starting to go bad.
But, its not with acceleration, it would be in sync with engine rpm.

 

Definitely your flux capacitor engaging. Watch it around 88mph.

 

Mine whines decently loud in the car with the ac/heater off and no music. I just had my tranny rebuilt less than 1yr ago so if this is a problem...just add it to the list
