Sound coming from under the hood?

I have a noise that sounds like an exhaust leak from under the hood.
I thought it was from were the cats meet the RV6 jpipe, so
I replaced the gaskets and nothing changed.
I don't drive it hard and it only has 62k miles.
Any thoughts on what else it could be?

Both, when I accelerate is when i can here it.
Its coming from the side of the engine that faces the front of the car especially under load.
For example when I am in 5th gear at about 2K rpm and floor it, I can really hear it.
I swore it was an exhaust leak.
I hope its nothing serious!

Im in the same boat as you, ever since I swapped out my FSB Ive noticed the same thing your describing. I havent really chased it down yet but it may be a vacuum leak.

Could it need a valve adjustment?

It's driving me nuts!
At normal acceleration, it's not bad.
It's only when I give it a lot of gas in a higher gear when I don't down shift.
Maybe a loud fuel injector?
I don't know!
Im afraid to take it to the dealer because they say its one thing, try to fix it, it not work, then suggest it could be something else after you paid for the first try.

An exhaust leak is a loud tick - is this what you're hearing? (way louder than a valve tick.)

Its pretty loud, that's why I thought it was an exhaust leak.
I did do the Ult Cooling mod so I do hear a lot more of my engine sound then when it was stock.

I might try that, but my experience with exhaust leaks you can hear it when you are close to the leak.
I have lifted the car with it running and I can not find one.

I will check.
I have never touched them since I bought the car.

Loose plugs which are common in the TL will obviously sound like an exhaust leak.

I checked the ones in the front, not the back yet.
They where tight.
I wonder if its pinging from the timing trying to advance for acceleration?
Just another idea.

Just a slight update; I went ahead and replaced my plugs and gaskets for my jpipe since the rear one was in pieces when I installed my atlp exhaust. I had one loose plug and thought that would have fixed the problem. After I finished I went for a drive and it was still there. So plugs arent the issue.

I wonder if this is the problem.
This tread came up wit a result that I hope is not the problem .
It was a loose bolt in the rocker arm.

after taking it to the dealer, they said there was nothing wrong with the engine.
They said it might have something to do with the RV6 J-pipe.
It told them that I just replaced the front gaskets.
He said to try the rear one.
He stated that even though it sounds like its coming from the front, it could be from the rear portion of the pipe and echoing into the front.
I guess I will have to order the rear gasket and see if it works.

Well I bought another RV6 J Pipe to see if the one on the is defective.
The one on the car now is the V2.
I hope this fixes the noise.
If not, I will put the V2 on the black market since it would have not been the problem.

Well the sound is still there.
Jpipe was not the problem.
Sold the old Jpipe, it was a V3.
What to do now?
