At least it sounds to me to be coming from my front windshield defrost vent. Sounds like a coin????
When I accelerate, brake, or make sudden turns I can hear something sliding inside the top of the dash by the windshield. I removed the front center speaker and felt around and there is no where flat in the dash to hold something to slide around besides the vent tubing for the front window defroster.
I could stick my hand inside the speaker hole with it out and I dragged my finger nails across the tubing for the window defroster and it sounded like the sound of whatever is sliding around in there.
What are my options in getting to this?
I thought of sending a magnet down the vent by the windshield but the holes were too small to fit the magnet in. Does this whole vent "bezel" come out from the dash by just popping up towards the windshield by chance???
It has a sensor on the left side as well, so maybe it comes out to perhaps service the sensor if needed????

 

Yes---the whole thing pops out. There is a video somewhere detailing how to remove the center console. Remove the trim strips along the edges of the console. Wrap a screwdriver in a MF towel and push up from the bottom of the vent assembly. Choose where you apply pressure carefully so you don't break the plastic. The whole assembly pops upwards. Disconnect the two harnesses to remove completely.
You will see a huge cavity behind the display, the floor of which is the radio. My guess is a clip or something fell down there and is sliding around. I had a similar issue, but it must have slid into a crack or something which stopped it from making noise. I'll find it the next time I rip open the dash.

I was just talkin about popping out the front windshield defogger vent bezel. Not the center vent and console.
I just need a little better access to send a telescoping magnet down in the vent tubing for the windshield defroster/defogger.
Wondering if it pops out because it is seperate from the rest of the dash and has a sensor on the panel as well, I think its for the auto headlights.......

 

That might be a bit more difficult to get to with the angle of the windshield. Good luck!
