Is something up with my 07 TL?

So I bought an 07 TL about 10 days ago and I've noticed one thing that really bothers me. What happens pretty often is when I press on the brakes and start slowing down, there is this jerk around 1000RPMs where the car slows down a lot more for a second. At this point the RPMs spike up a little, then fall down. This also sometimes happens when I just let go of the gas.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I dunno if this is some messed up downshifting by the automatic or what, but it's getting very annoying especially when I go back to drive my old car (a 94 SC300).

its the car downshifting, how many miles are on the car and did you buy a Tl-S or a base TL?

It sounds like the car is just downshifting.

yep, it is downshifting. My '08 does that too. I watched the RPMs after the first time that happened and saw them jump up abit when that "bump" happened.

Mine is a base model (but won't look like it soon)

It is downshifting which is normal, but I can understand you might not be use to it because older cars doesn't do that.

Mine does that too and always at around the 20mph downshift but not all the time. It has gotten less and less as I've had the car (now at 22K).

Damn, that really sucks. I hate driving it. Bought it used and I really regret it now. Speaker was blown out, my radio reception absolutely sucks and this stupid downshifting crap isn't making me a happy camper...

If you want to prevent it, just transfer over to sport shift, and it wont downshift

FYI, the transmission/ECU is also adaptive, i.e. the car will adapt to your driving style. Give it another week- either the issue will dissipate or your driving style is what triggers the abrupt downshifts (lots of pedal movement and low-speed throttle variations??).

Welcome to AZ, and G/L.

after one broke-dick j-series tranny (j30 in my old cl), the downshifts and even some upshifts scare me on my 07 tl-s. I don't ever think I'll get used to it.

My 2008 TL does the same thing. When I slow down, I can feel the car downshift, then when I'm about to stop, I sometimes feel a bit of a pull back. (Drops below 1000 rpm, then back up). I'm told this is normal TL behavior, but it does take some getting used to. I didn't notice it when I test drove the car.
