So much gas....but why!!!
Hi acurazine, this is my first post in the 3rd generation Tl section, but anyways my friends just got NEW NEW acura tl 2008 model it has 5000 KM on it and its taking 16-17 Litres/ 100 Kilometers why is it so much it should not be like this right? should like 12-13?? they went to dealership and they said wait till the car gets to 10,000 KM so the computer restarts or something electronical.
Anyone have had this problem? or experiencing same issue? please tell me how much you guys get out of your tank.
Thank acurazine!

check tire pressure first ... probably number one cause that people waste gas ...
other than that, always keep in mind that mileage can fluctuate a lot depending on driving conditions and driving style ... high acceleration will decrease mileage substantially (ideal gas-saving driving would be to accelerate slowly to your desired speed and not introduce sudden changes in speed.) Secondly, the more stop-and-go traffic you're in (or stop-and-go due to numerous stop lights,) the more gas you will be using ... again you're introducing more frequent accelerations from 0 km/h to X km/h. That's why highway cruising at a constant velocity around 65mph (whatever that converts into in km/h) saves you the most gas and therefore the higher highway gas mileage ratings (i.e. 23city/27highway or something like that.)
Most likely tire pressure I would say though ...

I live in Toronto too and my car use to be burning that much when I first bought it, I use to get 16-18L/100km with 91 octane all the time. Since I reset my MID & Nav Screen settings, the cars been saying I get 10-12L/100km, mind you I do mostly all city driving, but the most I ever get on my car with a full tank is around 370-390km, don't know why, it's the way it is............on the highway I've gotten 460 before.

The 'break-in' theory is false. Maybe 15 years ago this was true but there isn't really a break in period anymore. Notice our cars didn't have big yellow "CAUTION" stickers on the steering wheel warning about break in like cars used to. Doesn't mean you should flog it right out the dealership parking lot...
