Sliding Console Cover Replacement for $21

I bought this to try.. And it works well enough for a post..
05-09 Range Rover Sport Center Console Cover
https://www.ebay.com/itm/374655405154

Summary:
Width is as close as you can get to Acura OEM
Length is slightly too long so I cutoff 2 of the "rails" on the end, but 3 would have been better .. Either way it is good enough
My only compleaint is the Handle is too short. So when the cover is closed, it is difficult to slide back..
Either way, I would rather have this install than Nothing.. I like using the cover as a shelf, and it looks better closed.
Also the new one is a bit more flimpsy, but its not too bad. And if it was more ridged, then I might not have been able to BEND it to get it installed.
It is only $21 and really easy to install. But I did actually have to remove the cup holder because there was part of the OLD cover stuck in the back of the cup holder. So I had to remove it to pull out the old debris. Otherwise, I could have installed it without removing the cup holder..
But You dont have to dimantle the whole center console. Even the Aluminum rails, I only lifted near the cup holder and left them mounted by the Navi, at the top.
So I did this in about an hour! Plus I also tightened my parking brake in that time.. So I did it fast.

Very nice going to order one. Not paying that much for a new one. Is it difficult to remove the center console?

1. Lift the 2 large decorative silver rails on the bottom rear near the arm rest. I used something like a putty knife to slide under and lift. They just snap in..
2. Unscrew 2 bolts on the bottom rear of the console that are inside the arm rest compartment, on the floor.
3. Unscrew about 5 screws on the top of the cup holder
4. Slide the entire center console backwards about 2 inches..
5 . Remove cup holder

so far so good after a week. I actually had an inclination today of ordering another one... It's so much better than an open cupholder.

Well took your tip but I modified the handle. It was kind of flimsy so I cut my original out and glued it with that glue. Let’s see how it holds up.

Yeah I should have saved my old one. But I probably would have possibly cut off the whole first line with the handle included if that is even possible because I don't know because I don't have mine, but and then try to connect the whole line to the new one. When I say line I mean like the first slat. The other thing you can do is just leave it open just slightly so you can get your fingers in there on the new one and not even bother with trying to attach the old handle. That way you can get your fingers in there to pull the dumb thing back

I also noticed on this new cover that the handle slat or the handle line where you grab the handle, that is the most flimsy part. Meaning it depresses when you try to grab it which makes it harder to grab cuz it the handle is too small. Now the rest of the cover does not seem to be very flimsy.. it seems to be more tight but right there by the handle the first few slats, the whole thing seems to push in easily I don't know why maybe it's not as tight as the rest of the thing or what. I don't know but either way I still like it and for only 20 bucks you can't beat it. And it looks good. And if it was too rigid and not flimsy at all then you wouldn't be able to install it

Great tutorial Chad05TL! Just wondering, what is that button in between your seat heater switches? I've got an "07 Type S and I've never seen that button before?? Also. how did you know that the Range Rover slider from eBay was a good fit? I went on eBay and see lots of other ones...this one from a BMW looks a lot more like the one from our Acura, plus it looks like it has a larger grab bar in addition to the fact it has a silver bit on top of it like ours as well! https://www.ebay.com/itm/25562933861...Bk9SR9a8p7CgYg.
Before you did your repair, did you ever try and put some strong tape under the slats that broke in order to hold it together? I've done that, but now a piece towards the back broke off and is stuck in behind. I noticed on yours how you can see the back, but on new units its completely sealed, Is it hard to remove the back piece without destroying it? The reason I ask is if I can get to the broken bits stuck in the back, I'll just slide them back up and repair the whole slider with tape underneath to hold it all together?! Is there a photo/video tutorial on how to remove the cup holder unit? (I'm more of a visual person )
Thanks again!

I ordered one for a range rover in the O.P.
I emailed 2 people and asked for the dimensions. And the range rover was close to what I measured.
The button "was" for a rear camera that I had installed at 1 time. And the button changed the view of the camera. I still have the camera, but its not installed at this time.
Ya, if you can find one with a bigger handle, that is the right width.. that would be great. I think the TSX cover is too narrow.
No I did not try to repair the OEM one with tape or anything else. Most really strong tape will likely be too thick. But if it is too thick, you may be able to wittle out some part of the cup holder and make it wider so tape can slide back in there to the back. But I did not try to do that. Tape gets hot and melts. I doubt it would hold up.

from above:

This is a sweet alternative. I splurged for a BNIB from a seller on here a couple years ago to fix mine, but alas.... I don't need to no more!

It’s my daughter’s car now. She’s had it since she began college at FSU. She graduated last December early. The car was in perfect condition when it left not one dent. It came back like it had been in Ukraine! Not by her doing. So I had the car at the body shop for some dent removal etc. thing looks brand new. I had a 2006 white Diamond color should have never sold it. Anyhow, that tray always breaks. The console was replaced by my father in law. We both bought the cars together. Her car now has 72k miles on it. Last thing that broke was the DVD NAV. I got one on eBay and got lucky it worked.

Chad05TL: “ Plus I also tightened my parking brake in that time..”

Now that I have the slider, I’m going to attempt this…I was wondering about tightening the parking brake though…is tightening it turning the bolt to the right? How much do you need to tighten (how many turns)? The reason I ask is that the cable for the parking brake broke about a year ago and had my mechanic replace it. However, ever since then when I park on a grade and use the parking brake, it doesn’t seem to hold the car in place like it used to. Would tightening this bolt fix this issue, or is there an issue with the brakes themselves being worn?
Thanks!

I would start with the parking brake shoe inside the rotor. There is a sprocket looking thing that needs to rotate to full tight, when you reinstall the rotor and cannot turn it... Then loosen the sprocket just to the point the rotor turns freely. Do all that with the parking brake lever down.
Then tighten the parking cable to where it is taunted but not so tight it pulls on the brake shoes. Turn the nut whichever direction makes the cable tighter. Or shorter.. I don't remember which way but likely to the right..but you may not have to tighten that cable after you set the brake shoes. So do that first then check the brake lever to see if that does the trick .

And the only way I know to check if you need brake shoes is compare them with new ones.. but they do run thin anyway

Just wondering how the new handle is holding up? I’m sure it makes it a lot sturdier, as Chad05TL was saying this was the more flimsy part of it? How does the handle separate from the old slider? Does it just fit right over the new one, with a little help from that glue?
Thanks!

So I installed the cover today and did my own little modification. At first I had attempted to replace the original handle over the new one as done above, but botched removing it from the original cover. Not sure how he did it so cleanly? So what I did was remove the little silver piece from the old handle by pushing on the two little clips that hold it in place. I then drilled two small holes on the top of the new handle, and with a couple dabs of glue, pushed it in place. I think it looks really good, and gives just a little bit more to grab onto.

I saw a video of someone using this exact item to replace. I tried to use glue and tape, but it looks pretty ugly so I just decided to buy one off ebay and will try to do some slight mod like yours since I opened my whole middle console out to replace the dead lights so might as well update the rest. My car needed some TLc and I have been neglecting it for a while now.
