Slapping noise in reverse
Slapping noise in reverse
Hello TL gang,
I just recently finished up rebuilding the transmission. I put the car back together and one problem after another. I finally got it somewhat right. The car shifts beautifully, but the D light is flashing that won’t show any codes on the regular OBDII scanner. I’m ordering the scanner that can pull transmission code. The flashing D light only restricts the use of tiptronic. I’m sure I’ll figure it out once I get the scanner. The issue I’m having is that there’s a slapping noise when the car is going in reverse. It moves but the slapping noise irritates me. I have to pull the stick shift back just a little to stop the noise and it comes back once the stick shift is released. I feel like the reverse idler gear isn’t seated or released all the way. I’m thinking maybe a brand new shift cable will fix it. The car goes in all gears including park. Any ideas?
Note: I adjust the linkage at the transmission a couple of times. It gets better but doesn’t completely disappear.
