sister rear ended a van with my 05 tl

i need a good body shop in the chicagoland area. my sister rear ended a stopped van while going 35mph. i've been out of the country for a year now and thought my tl was in storage in my garage until my sister informed me (3 days after the fact) that she rear ended a van while switching lanes. luckily i continued paying my insurance while away. i haven't seen actual pics yet as my sis has not yet emailed me pics of the damage almost 1 week after the accident. from what she told me the hood went under the bumper of the van, the airbags went off, the electrical power was out and the doors were hard to open. can any of you recommend a good auto body collision shop? distance doesn't really matter as long as the worksmanship is good.

Certainly glad to hear that the insurance is up to date. Hopefully the people in the van weren't injured, and hopefully they don't get that sue happy feeling.

Sounds like quite a bit of damage to the TL as the fenders were pushed back into the doors. I assume the car was towed to a shop or yard, so I'd start by speaking with them. They may give you some insight as to the amount of damage, and also a reliable body shop, although they are hard to come by. Even with recommendations I'd be leary as to workmanship, as some people are not as demanding as others.
Sorry I'm not in the Chicago area, but in all my dealings with body shops, there are only a couple that I would have work on my car.

Good Luck, and wait for some more replies.

My previous TSX got crunched twice, and both times I took it to Auto Body Unlimited in Downers Grove. They do great work.

but joking aside, if the fenders were pushed back, it sounds like a bunch of damage. Most likely the car will be totaled as airbag replacement and other items will total more than 50% of the cars value. Have your sister claim the insurance and get it dealt with. Then upon your return to the states, kill her.

I wouldn't kill my sister but would certainly have a serious heart to heart. ;-)
That being said, I might, depending, try to have the car totaled and maybe even buy it back. Don't know how insurance is in your state. If that's not possible find the very best body shop available even if they aren't as close as you would like. I've had more experience at this than I care to tell (kids) but the quality of the shop does make one hell of a deference.
