Unhappy Signs of a Transmission problem???

Not sure where to post this but.....

My 2006 5AT TL with 99,600 miles on it just suddenly started showing the following symptoms:

1) When starting in the morning the car shifting goes from Park to Reverse then to Drive as I'm backing up the driveway. But from Reverse to Drive it would take 5-10 seconds before it engages. Then it ran fine when it would warm up.

2) Recently even when the car is warm (not sure if its due to NY's very frigid temperatures) but when it's on Drive I can feel the car shift from 1st to 2nd then it revs all the way to 4,000 to 5,000 before it engages to 3rd.

3) While on the highway or local streets from a stop it feels like it the car rev's as if it's in Neutral before it engages on any gear.

About a month ago I replaced the 3rd and 4th gear switches, if that matters. And also "service B14 due soon" just popped up. Will a transmission drain and fill fix the shifting issues???? Since I'm planning to have the service B14 done at the stealership.

Thanks all.

Check your transmission fluid level if you haven't already (check it per the manual - basically with engine completely warmed up and within 1-2 minutes after engine is shut off).

Currently it's at the dealer for the B14 service and having the fluid drain/fill. Hoping the drain and fill will fix it since I did not get any error codes.

i am not sure if it will fix/eliminate the problem. but definitely do a drain/fill ASAP. Drive a week or two then do another drain and fill.

Apparently according to the dealer the 1x3 drain/fill thinned out the fluid in the tranny and caused the slipping.

I just got the car back and it is running like a champ again.

how much did the dealer charge you to replace the tranny?

dealers and most shops prefer to replace the defective parts instead of fixing it.

that reason by the dealer doesn't make sense since fresh tranny fluid is slightly thicker. anyway how much did you pay for the job. going to the dealer in the morning to have it inspected and diagnosed.

I'll add to a similar story.

My car was driving PERFECTLY fine. Shifts perfect, everything. Transmission fluid was changed in May 2013, and pressure switches also.

Then came May 2014.
I did a drain and refill, and IMMEDIATELY after the drive, my transmission slips (flares) going from 3rd to 4th gear.
Even though it's not my first time, I didn't trust my job, so I went to a Honda/Acura specialist shop and had them do the drain/refill. Same symptoms.

It's now Feb 2015, and I am still driving it the same.
If I let off the gas (almost completely) when I feel like it needs to shift to 4th gear, it does not flare and slips right into 4th gear.
Now if I keep holding the acceleration, when it needs to shift, it will flare.
This is the one reason why only I will drive my car, no one else can.

smh My car had those same exact symptoms before the tranny went out in Jan '14. Only had 102,000 miles on it. Seems like your car, super's, and mine were all in the same mileage range when our transmissions went out.

My guess is the Tranny was on it's way out and the drain/fill accelerated the slippage due to fresh fluids. It was a hefty bill but Acura and the dealer helped me with the bill since they were able to retrieve service records of the car. And since I didn't want any monthly car payments for a new one, it seems cheaper to pay the bill.

Wow! I'm surprised it lasted that long with that kind of shifting. How is it in cold mornings? Mine was getting worst as the temperature gets colder. And I was doing the same with what you're doing (letting off the gas then it shifts) But it just got worst.

Cold mornings have been the same, only slightly worse; shifts take a long time, and I get the flaring if I don't ease off the gas between 3rd to 4th

Guys need help asap. Car is currently at dealer and there saying i need a new tranny. Quoted me $5,400 out the door. I think that is the highest number i ever read on these forums. Spoke to service manager and asked for goodwill and he said only 5%. I said no way. He says to call him in the morning and well see where we are at. i think they are jerking me. Need opinions and advice. Also a contact number to ACURA corporate. Thanks.

Yes, you can use 06/07 V6 Honda transmission, much cheaper too.
