If you had anything somewhat heavy on the pass. seat, the light would come on. If there is not enought weight, the airbag will be off to protect smaller people/ children.
I has a computer on the seat ones and the light came on.
Hope that helps, Mark.

What you are seeing is normal.
Think of it this way, the passenger side airbag will be off unless a passenger is actually in the seat and could conceivably (though hopefully not) need it. I believe it takes around 60lbs in the passenger seat to trigger the airbag to be activated, otherwise it is off. This is both to prevent it from going off when babies/small children could be in the passenger seat, as well as to prevent unnecessary (and expensive) repair costs if the airbag were to deploy unnecessarily.
