If I'm reading this correctly to my understanding... All the lights on the steering wheel should be lit up for night time use.

Plan on removing the airbag.. do it yourself and save your money, very easy. Unplug battery for 5 mins then pop small access cover under steering wheel/airbag and disconnect airbag connector and ground. Then remove 2 Torx head screws on sides. You can have it off in 5 mins.

I was actually wonder the same thing. My cruise button doesn't light up. It's not worth fixing in my opinion. If others go, I'll think about it.

Section G of the 3G Garage has complete instructions on replacing these lights with LEDs. Take a look and see if it is something you think you can tackle yourself. While it is fairly easy to do, there are some more details to be considered than just "Unplug battery for 5 mins then pop small access cover under steering wheel/airbag and disconnect airbag connector and ground. Then remove 2 Torx head screws on sides. You can have it off in 5 mins."

Be careful about this one... I found out (the hard way) that the extended warranty (past the original 4yr, 50K miles) does not cover anything that is trim related, and does not cover blown bulbs...

A bit off-topic:

Yeah, my f-ing outer door handle fell off and despite being mentioned in a service bulletin, the dealer refused to replace it for me, since the extended warranty does not cover this (trim).

I know I can do it myself, but in order to replace the base of the outer door handle, I have to remove the interior door panel. Yuck.

Do you mean the actual door handle or just the little piece of trim at the end that doesn't move with the handle? If this is what you are referring to, you do not need to remove the inner door panel - everything is fixed from the outside and is very simple.

Yes, I mean the little piece of trim (which I think the service manual calls "outer door handle" -- confusing, right?).

The problem is that the old base is defective in the sense that it does not hold the revised trim properly. Thus the base needs to be removed too. I looked at it yesterday and noticed that the base is screwed in from the *inside*... Am I mistakened?

Do you have a working link for the steering wheel bulb replacement? The oft-quoted hondacuraworld.com is dead & I would like complete directions/graphics on how to do this. Thanks!

What did they quote you on replacing these bulbs? I am not wearing a heart monitor, so fire away!

I just discovered that my passenger side temperature switch bulbs are out. F*ck me! This is now in addition to the resume/accelerate and cancel/decelerate cruise control buttons.

Anyone have an idea of how easy/hard it is to replace the bulbs behind the passenger side temperature switches?

Guys, bookmark this link. It is also a sticky at the top of every section:

Section G of the 3G Garage is where you want to start.

Thumbs up

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but...

2004 TL's do not have the steering wheel buttons backlit. That is something that was added for the 2005 model.

I would know, I have one and I wondered why they weren't lit...so I looked it up.

You'll also notice that a lot of the AC controls aren't lit either, on the right side of where the navi screen would be (circulate air, defroster, etc). Why this was overlooked, even if it was the first year of the new model, is beyond me. Slightly annoying.

Follow the DIY's posted if you want to add your own.
