Shifter sticking

I need some advise on how to remove the shifter. My loverly wife spilled some coffee on the console and before I knew abou it, it had dreied and the shifter is sticking. I have a hard time getting it into parl and sometimes out of Park. I tried removing the shifter but came to a stand still after plastic pieces began flexing more than I wanted them tooo. Doe anyone have any piuctures or advice to help me get into the sifter area? The plastic that moves forward and back with the shifter is flexing bad, I hate to think I will have to repalce the hole thing or take it to Acura to fix it. Thanks for the advice.

I know there are some pics and descrips here- it involves removal of the side panels to the console and then you get to a plate with 3 micro switches- if any are baked/burned, replace that 1

otherwise spray liberally with CRC electrical contact cleaner and hope for the best

A couple of other people had spills into their shifter areas and successfully took care of the problem by misting the area with distilled water, without opening up the console. Those spills resulted in problems with the Sportshift function rather than the PRND2L, though.
Try a search for "shifter," "console" and "coffee" to pull up those threads.

Unfortunately it lookes like it being jammed has broken something inside. The plastic "twists" when I move the shifter. I will look around more for some "how to" photos. By the way, everything works fine if you can move the shifter. Thanks for the help...

I searched everythimg I could think of and did not find those threads.... Thank you so much. That got me to the shifter... I was able to ge tthe trim panels off but I can not get into the shifter to figure out whats binding up/ sticking. I think I need to be able to get the panel off the Auto sifter that has the P=R-D on it. Is that possible?

agan, thanks for the help!!!

Yeah, that was for an MT.

You can try searching the Garage https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84831

I'd think that plate would just pop off. I could not see all the service manual pics - no hints there?

ok my dumb a$$ finallly found all the threads in the 3G garage. I wonder why they did not come up ona regular search. Anyway, the possible breakage af the plastic worries me. Things only bend so far before I freak out and think "This isn't good" and put it all back togetehr. Looks like I better get the credit card ready for the dealership. Thanks again. I will let you all know how it get s fixed when I get it back from the dealership.

Looks like item 12 in this diagram. Looks like an assembly, not just the P-R-N plate. At ~$55 not real cheap if you bust it either.

ok after my trip to the dealership... I need a new shifter!!!! Apparently it was pretty nasty in there causing it to gum up. Unfortuntately when I forced it I brike the slider....

$279 for the part adn installation. I think I could probably handle it but at this point its not worth it. I have left it at the dealership and it supposed to be ready when I get back to town on Saturday.

Thanks again for the advise.... and be careful with coffee cups/ coke or anything else in the car.
