Shift boot not attached to knob anymore (6-sp manual)

I tightened my shift knob not knowing the boot was attached to the knob, now my boot falls down below this silver plastic piece that is just underneath the know. Does anyone know how to reattach this boot? When I unscrew the job this plastic piece comes off with the know, and I can not seperate the know and plastic piece.

I think one of two things could have happened from tightening w/out pulling down the boot. Possibly broke the plastic clips that hold the little silver plastic ring on to the shift knob, or tore the boot from the ring. It's really hard to understand what your explaining. The ring pulls right off of the shifter, but its on there really tight. just pull it straight off-

Yea.. it's hard to describe what happened, but I think you get my drift. So you say the ring pulls apart from the know part? Just pull them apart, no twisting? Thanks!

I figured it out, but I broke one of the two tabs the secure the two together after taking it apart a couple times.

Crap!

tabs on what, the knob or the plastic that attaches to the boot?

The plastic is held to the boot by zip ties. I broke my zip tie and had to take apart the center console to get the boot attached again from underneath. Kinda a PITA, but I already took it apart for the comptech SS, so it was pretty qick the second time around.
