shaking TL
shaking TL
For the last 6 weeks, my tl has been shaking a lot and acting weird. For example, if i stop at a red light, the car starts vibrating a little then it gets stronger and stronger with some time. The only way to cure it is to shift the car into neutral. The shaking and vibration stops. As well, the car is much more quieter. I have noticed when I shift to neutral, the RPM's raise to about 800 versus about 500 when in drive at the stoplight. Forgot to add, the car has been surging in power slightly, if i push the pedal at a constant level, the car will have a few rough spots. I had my oil changed last week in hope of solving this and it did nothing. I always run 93 octane from the same station. I have not added any performance mods to the car and all the filters are clean. The only thing I can think of is that my TL has been being parked on a slight incline lately, but thats been only happening for the last 3 weeks. Any ideas on what the hell is going on?
Just brainstorming "out loud" here, hopefully it helps...
Could it be that something is throwing off the balance of the engine, like a misfire or something? Like for example, the dynamic balance is thrown off because (a) cylinder(s) spark plug wont spark, or an injector is clogged. If there is no fire/combustion in a particular cylinder, then i would imagine the balance to be affected. And when you drive, the higher then idle revs may allow the engine to be in "balance" but you feel "rough spots" because as the tranny shifts, the engine comes in and out of balance due to the fluctuating revs. But that doesnt explain thou, that when you put it into nuetral, why the engine stops vibrating.....Just a thought, and it may be completely wrong. Best of luck to you, and keep us posted!

i noticed that on my 06 TL, but i had ALOT of performance mods on it.
even with my new TL-S, shifting the car into N will make it quieter.. i think it has something to do with the driveline vibration that these cars are notorious for
how many miles do you have?

time for a trip to the dealer
Could be emission related- it certainly affects driveabilty so the warranty should cover anything there
Or could be trans problem
or could be transmission mount or motor mount bad

i had the same problem in my 05, I took it to the dealer and had a 3x transmission flush and replace fluid. It helped alot of issues including this. THe fluid was brown almost like used motor oil, and after it was brand new red again. did it at about 65000 miles 2 weeks ago and its riding a lot better now. even the weird gear shifting when slowing down is gone. dealer said to just do a drain and refill every 30000 miles from now or do another flush after 60000 more.
car has 42000 miles on it, its an mid-build 04. It shouldn't be misfiring as I would have gotten a CEL for it. The car's performance nor gas mileage has not been affected so i did not think it would be a clogged injector. The car still shifts smoothly, I will check the color of the fluid tomorrow morning.

also while going out somewhere tonight, I noticed that the car slightly torqued to the right when shifting from any gear to another besides neutral. Def will schedule an appt. to take it in.
