Thumbs down Safe mode or tranny problem? 2007 TL-S

hey guys, i recently purchased a 2007 tl-s, so far the car has been great for a daily driver with the at tranny. although i noticed at highway speeds the rpm are limited. at either 4500 in 4th gear or 2500 in 5th. the car will not accelerate in either, 3rd gear i can vtec and hit redline 4th and 5th are just dead. any ideas?

Something is wrong with your car lol, no way a stock 1.8 Jetta will beat a tl-s lol

Speed limiter of the 5at TL-S kicks in at 135mph. Check again, it's probably 215-ish where it stops accelerating. Nothing is wrong with your car.

Auto to auto G35 and 330 should be very close. You have no chance at the 335

And comparing a stock heavy honda luxury sport sedan against a heavily modified FI car is just silly. Unless your talking reliability

seems like OP doesnt want help, but to brag.

if you truly want help, please describe your problems in more detail and less talking about your other rides/comparing to other cars.

If you simply wanted a faster TL, you should have opted for the manual gearbox. Limited slip front end(to keep the torques at bay) and about a full second faster 0-60.

My 07' Type-S AT runs strong, but just getting around to changing the AT filter. The local Acura dealer said "We have never had one of those in stock...or sold). Wow....seriously? With all the early 2000' V6 Accord/TL trans issues, these should be a STAPLE during trans fluid changes. Mine will be changed next weekend once parts are in....

My TL is too slow especially compared to the Corvettes I race. My Grand National beats it. It's a 602rwhp GN with $10k in it built by me. I like to drive fast on city streets. I don't know why the TL is so slow.

What did you order? I am pretty sure the ATF filter is external only on the '04-'06. On the '07 and '08 it's an internal filter, requiring the tranny to be dropped to change that filter.

I don't see why people would think a big semi-luxury sedan would be fast. It's not. Especially the AT version, which is really down on power as compared to the MT.

If you're into 'racing', the TL might not be the best choice. For some reason, people get the impression the TL Type-S is a 'fast' car, and I get asked if its a 'fast' car surprisingly often. It's a good daily, but is bordering on slow.

Bordering on slow? IMO it's the one of the fastest 4 door V6's around. I've raced multiple cars and I have yet to find one that's outran my TL. (Stock 5AT) Even the 2013 Taurus SHO which is Twin Turbo has almost the same 0-60 time as a TL does.

You can't find a car that outruns a stock base TL 5AT?

Are you running I4 Hybrid Economy cars?

Find a real 'fast' car and run that. Something along the lines of a Z06, GTR... Preferably heavily modified. The difference would be absolutely devastating. Doing the 1/4 mile in 10 seconds feels nothing like 14-15. Even then, it gets boring quick.

In his defense he did say a 4 door the cars you quoted are not 4 doors.

I did mention 4 doors. And how many times do you see a Z06 or a GTR while cruising around?

I just can't imagine racing a TL. I've messed around with my friends for fun before but to go out on the street purposely looking for races is crazy. You're no quicker than a Camry or Altima. I'll never reduce myself to racing those types of cars.

I've had high schoolers in their Scion tC's, Jetta's, ghetto F150's, Civics, etc. get up next to me and gun it. Also raced a two door Benz. I don't go out of my way but if someone initiates I won't turn it down. And not every Camry or Altima comes equipped with a V6. Plus those engines are bigger (3.5L)
