Rust/Corrosion on '07 TL

I'm a new member of Acurazine - this site looks great. I'm taking delivery of a new '07 TL, it's been sitting on the lot for some time (about 10 months). I noticed a fair bit of rust where the wheels meet the hub. Also noticed on pretty much every other TL on the lot. Has anyone else seen this? Any tips on cleaning it up? The dealer says it's just the way the TL is. Thanks.

I don't think you should be worried too much about it. When it rains and you leave your car outside, your brake rotors will often show rust, but once you drive and brake a little bit, the rust wears right off. Anybody who lives where there is severe/colder weather will have what your new TL has. Also, as you said, all TL's on the lot were in the same condition. Your in the clear! You should be more worried about the car sitting in the lot for 10 whole months! I hope you got a good deal!

Thanks Princelybug. I know about the rust on the rotors, no problem there. This was rust seeping out of the seem between the wheel and the hub - never seen that on any other vehicle. Yes, the 10 months on the lot concerns me a bit - should have looked for that before I gave them the down payment. I'm hoping this won't turn out to be an issue. The deal was good tho', $8,500 off list and .9% financing.

I think that's pretty common too. Look at some of the used wheels in the Black Market; on many you can see rust/discoloration from where they meet the wheel hub.

Since it's new, should be pretty easy to pull the wheels and scrub 'em down with a brush. BUT, I don't know how you'll keep it from coming back.

I doubt that the rust is a problem. That is one heck of a deal on the car.

The rust, or oxidation, shouldnt be a problem. It occurs often when your car is sitting there and it's raining.

No worries, a spin around the block and it should clear up

I'm happy to say the dealer did a nice job of cleaning up the wheels before I took delivery. Everything good so far - no rattles ..... yet!
