The roof rattle fixed

I took my car to Rosenthal Acura for the rattle problem. They DID fix the rattle around the sun-roof!

Poor glove box though. They could not open it and they will destroy and replace it with a new one next week!

sunroof rattle

Good to know. I bought mine there too. Just started to notice the rattle towards the front of the sunroof over rough pavement.

Was yours like that?

Next is the tires. Need to give them the chance to re-balance, but, judging by what I've read, new tires sound like the fix.

Just so you guys know, the quickest way to fix the moonroof rattle is to put a strip of felt in the area where the wind deflector rests when the moonroof is closed. Do a search and you might be able to find a photo I posted (I think the comprehensive problems thread at the top of the page has it too)

Yes, it was exactly like yours. Actually, it is sad to report that the rattle is not completely gone-just slightly better (live in Bethesda as well).

I don't have a wind deflector. I do know where the rattle is coming from. If you stick your finger into the gap where the sun shade slides in, you can shut off the rattle. I am tempted to put a styroform peanut, but I think everything will chewed up everytime I open the sun roof.

Oh, well, I will just live with it. I just want to be able to open the god damx glove box!!

Actually, PLEASE do not stick your finger in there and try to open the sun roof at the same time. It will hurt!!

Everyone has the wind deflector -- it's the little piece of metal railing that pops up when you open the moonroof. The place where you're sticking your finger is exactly where the felt needs to go.

Again, search for the photo of the felt and you'll see exactly how many people have fixed it themselves.

The photo gallery is not working right now - so you can't see any pics. PM (private message) me your email and I'll send you a pic of the fix.

After seeing a photo sent by beeTLe, I put a thin layer of styrofoam near the sunroof. After a 5sec. fix, the rattle is gone.

Thanks, beeTLe!

Actually there are two major rattles in the sunroof. The wind deflector as you describe, and the headliner clip (attaching to the roof) in the middle as described by Novice.

I had to have that one fixed, but not the wind deflector.

Hey, no problem! This fix + the the glove box fix have solved all of my BIG rattles. Still a couple of tiny ones that I didn't notice because the wind deflector and glove box were so bad...

I'd be happy to send the pics to others while the gallery is down - just PM me with your email address.

So all these rattles that i keep hearing about...how bad are they really? I've test driven the car twice, and didn't really notice anything (one of the cars had about 1k miles on it).

Also, are these less of an issue for the newer '04 TLs?

Rattles really get to me; my 2000 Toyota with only 50k miles rattles like crazy. Obviously if my Toyota rattles, this is a potential problem for any type of car. Have the rattles made any of you second guess your decision to get the TL?

This will be my first "nice" car (law school graduation present to myself) and I guess I have pretty high standards for this one.

Anybody have the pics of this fix?

My headliner or something is crackling. If I put my fingers in where the shade goes and pull glently and drive it is gone.

Someone please help, I read the posts but with no pics I dont know where to exactly put the felt.

if you are hearing rubber squeaking, this might help.

Lore's word is the straight truth.

I used a peace of foam about 1/2 inch by 1 inch and stuck it to the car just under where the deflector "lays down". It is held there by double sided tape. It is black and noticed against the blue color of my car. Different method, same effect.
