OK, lets talk about the engine mount

There has been saying that TL's engine mount is electrically controlled fluid filled mount. It sounds very advanced.

Now, lets forget about how high tech it is, just talk about if it does the job well---if it damps out hte engine vibration and balances the torque from transmission.

IMHO, compared to my 03 TL, the high-tech engine mounts on 05 does a poor job. When shifting to R, the transmission shocks and whole car shudders. You can even hear it and it sounds like somebody is pounching on wall. If you start the car on a cold day, the car can rock by 1 inch the moment you turn the ignition key!! (The car is in Park) No to mention more engine vibrations can be felt through the floor, which doesn't happen in 2nd Gen TL.

Just my experience. Maybe others have different opinion? I am not trying to persude people that 3rd Gen is POS, i am just talking about technical and try to get peoples opinion. Mods, if you don't like this thread and only " what fo you like best of TL" kind of euphomism thread is allowed, do whatever you want. I don't need credibility of being a non-objective, blind TL ennthusiast.

Didnt you research the car before you bought it, bla bla bla....
You are not to talk anything negitive here.

On my 2005 6MT, the motor mounts seem very good, on a really cold day, i do get some vibration till things warm up, I dont think you can avoid that on any car.
On warm days, and once warmed up, my mounts seem great, aalthough I will say the tradeoff is a sloppy drivetrain feel when working the clutch, you cant have a real smooth feel and a firm drivetrain, its just not possable.

Now in auto trans cars, shifting is usualy much smoother, so you dont notice driveline slop, but you have the engine forcing things against stopped wheels
(car in drive, brake on).
On my TL, I think they got it right, its smooth but not really sloppy.
I have never driven the 2nd gen TL, so can not say why it would have less vibration, maybe its engine tuning, or sub frame bushings, the 3rd gen is built to be more sporty, so maybe they firmed up the sub frame bushings.

I got to say though, my car is silky smooth all the time except for when its cold out and the engine is cold. Turn the radio up a little and you got no idea how fast the car or the engine is going, its only through noise feedback that you have any clue as to what is going on, and even then, driving the 6MT is sometimes hard without actualy looking at the tach, any quieter and smoother and I would always be running the engine at 5000 rpm's without knowing it...

I have same observations as this guy did.

When shifting to R, the transmission shocks and whole car shudders.
I notice this 50% of times. I find it happens more when car is on decline (car is completely stopped and I'm pressing brake hard). I have AT I'm not sure if u have AT or MT

If you start the car on a cold day, the car can rock by 1 inch the moment you turn the ignition key!! (The car is in Park) No to mention more engine vibrations can be felt through the floor, which doesn't happen in 2nd Gen TL.
I think you might not be hodling the key long enough. I only get that when I give really short start. Yes it gets a little worse in cold weather even you start it normal though. I have no comparison against 2G cuz I never drove one.

At the risk of insulting some of you I have this to say...

A long time ago a man design a mode of transportation called the automobile.
Soon after others began to try to perfect this invention..
They changed designs in order to offer more performance, function,
convenience, luxury and so on.....
With all that one thing remains true.... the car is man made.

Having owned 7 in my short life time I can tell you..and as others can atest.......
All cars have issues.
Whether you pay 5k, 42k or 350k you will have some problems....
It would be better if you came on here and posted what the solution rather than a complaint about it.
This is a site forum for TL owners and they don't want to know about how shitty you think their car is.

If you can post a solution: example:
say the dash fades----you can use formula blankity blank to help dash fade.

I dont know what everyones problem is, it seems like a good question.
If the 3rd gen vibrates more than the 2nd gen, there is a reason why.
Stiffer sub frame bushings, ulev rough running, changes between the 2nd and 3rd gen engines, changes in the transmission, etc.

My manual trans car seems very smooth, except when its stone cold, and then its not bad, its what I expect for cold parts...

So maybe its something to do with the automatic transmission along with the new 3g design.
I wonder what the electrical motor mounts are supposed to do.
Its hard to see how some electrical input could change how the mounts work, and how fast can they can react, or how often, and under what conditions...

Manufacturers often do propaganda, bushitting about how advanced their technology is, and there are people who woule like to get brain-washed. WIthout desitation, they believe the electrically-controlled fluid mount definately will work better than conventional ones.

I think a lot of people still believe Intel P4 2.4Ghz is faster than AMD Athlon 64 1.6Ghz.

Well, I bet most people have no idea what a motor mount IS.
I also bet acura did not just stick wires on the mounts and call it electric...
