Question Reverse lights after swap not working

I completed my transmission AT--> MT swap about 6 months ago, the only thing I have not been able to figure out is how to get my reverse lights working.

I am thinking it is the gauge cluster from the AT looking for the transmission range switch, I plan on changing to a MT version here shortly.

I know this is a simple circuit, but it is giving me the biggest headache.

In searching this is the closest I got to a solution https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/diy-reverse-light-tailgater-switch-without-running-line-trunk-816507/

Hope someone here can help

Thx

Had this same problem when I swapped my 6th gen accord from auto to 5sp manual. A guy at my work solved this issue for me, but i know you will need to rewire to make them work again. Try searching 6thgenaccord(.com) to see if you can find the thread which may have some relevance to your problem.

You will have to wire in the reverse switch. Are you using the AT harness or MT harness. The plug should be on the MT harness.

You could always just custom mount a momentary switch somewhere that will be depressed only when the shifter is in reverse.

I am using the manual engine harness, the ECU sub harness and MICU to engine fuse box harness were also swapped to manual. I thought I had the rewire correct, but I am thinking the switch could be bad too.

Do you know what pages in the service manual I need to look at to verify my re-wiring?

I thought about adding in a tailgater switch, and I am now determined to figure this out as a matter of principle. I like the idea of a momentary switch, but if there is a problem with the wiring adding a tailgater switch still may not fix the problem, the momentary switch could solve that if I need to.

Try shorting the 2 pins on the reverse switch connector (harness). The reverse lights should come on if your ignition is keyed on. If it comes on check your reverse switch. If not the problem lies within the wiring.

I'll pull up the diagram when I get a chance.

If you swapped the fuse box as well. I would check and see you are getting 12V at one of the reverse light switch connector pins.

Hi Richie,

I didn't change the fuse box in my swap, but I went ahead and did the tests

jumped the harness= no reverse lights
tested voltage at harness= little voltage 3.5V

I think I know where this is headed, but I will wait to hear your suggestion.

The easiest way would be to trace the reverse light switch wires back to the fuse box and connect one end to ground and the other to P20 on the diagram and use the existing relay.

I just recently had my '04 TL swapped. My reverse lights do not come on, my mirrors don't tilt in reverse, and my memory seats will not activate. I can save a memory setting, but cannot activate it because the car has to be in park to do that.

My installer is working with me to get the reverse lights working (and if all else fails, I'll try what Richie said in his last post), but I'm not sure about the memory seats.

OP, did you lose your memory seats after the swap also? If so, were you ever able to get them back?

just earlier today my friend with a 6mt tsx had an issue with the reverse lights. he had the clutch changed couple days ago and the reverse lights werent working afterwards. turns out it was just the harness not clipped back in on the top of the transmission. most likely a careless mistake when the shop did the clutch job

I figured out the backup lights and tilting mirrors. The wire coming off the MT reverse sensor (on the trans case, going back through firewall) has to be spliced with the white wire (pin 14) on connector C171 in the passenger footwell by the ECU. This white wire is for the reverse position circuit. It activates all reverse functions when grounded.

As for the memory seats, I partially figured those out. The blue/black wire on connector C171 (pin 5) is for the park position circuit. I tried to ground the wire right at the C171 connector but the memory seats still didn't work. So I traced it back to the MICU and grounded it there. They WORK, but only when the car is off. I'm not sure why. The seat returns to position when you unlock/open the door, but once you start the car, you cannot activate a memory setting. Very strange.
