Replacing coolant and transmission fluid question

Hey guys,

I recently got a 07 TL-S with 54k (currently) and I want to change out the coolant and transmission fluid. My questions are:

1) Replacing the coolant - aside from replacing the coolant in the radiator, should I also replace the coolant in the motor block? how many gallons of coolant is required?

2) Replacing the transmission fluid - should I consider replacing the transmission filter and gasket? Should I go with Acura DW-1 fluid or something else? How many quarts? Talked with the dealership and they said I need 4 qts but the car will only 3 and a half.

I appreciate any advice or suggestion in advance. I have not done this before and would like some insight from you guys.

The Acura dealer told me that if I don't replace the Tranny fluid every 30,000 miles or so, then don't do it at all. Also, if you do replace it, don't go with DW-1.

Why? OEM fluid is good for 10 yrs/ 120K miles. Read the sticker on the underside of your hood or the sticker on the driver's side door jamb.

Your dealer is dumb, go somewhere else.

The coolant should be good for at least 7-10 years or 105K miles. If you want to replace the coolant I suggest you do it ALL. In the Service Dept. Section you'll find instructions on how to drain the fluid from the block, radiator, expansion tank, etc.

Then refill the fluid and let the system "burp" as the manual calls it and let all the air out!

If you are replacing the fluid you have a number of options! You can choose to stick with the newer DW1 fluid from honda OR you could go after-market. Going aftermarket is a great choice as is sticking with OEM fluids. Personally I'd go with the Redline D4.

The Transmission holds a LOT more than 4 quarts of fluid. The problem is that for every "drain" it will only let out 3.5 quarts of fluid, effectively replacing about 35-40% of the fluid. The norm here to change ALL the fluid is to do a 3x3 flush where you drain the transmission, refill, go for a drive and repeat 3x.

With 54K on the car, you shouldn't have to do too much maintenance to the car. As always check your tire pressure, your oil level, etc.

This is sort of true with the old Z1 fluid; with the newer factory fills and replacements it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Replacing the factory fluid at any point before 60K is fine.
