So I removed my HFL because it doesn't work and didn'twant it to drain my bbattery in the future and now my moonroof doesn't work if you try using the button.

the moonroof will open though if I use the key fob (hit unlock twice to open all windows and moonroof).

does the hfl have to be hooked up for the moonroof switch to work?

no, but you must have disconnected the moonroof switch harness when you were removing the HFL

 

Yup, I'm an idiot.

I thought I had plugged everything back in but there was still one small connector that wasn't plugged in and it must be for the sunroof switch.
