Regrease or Lube Intermediate Shaft

Had a lot of trouble the last 24 hours taking off the passenger side cv axle that wouldn't go in all the way (Photo below) which is why I pulled it out.

Anyways after prevailing through the battle the intermediate shaft doesn't look to pretty I figure my issue is either the snap ring or maybe I need to lube it up
I'll post a pic below but any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify:
1) Silly question, you have the correct # of female CV axle splines to mate to the male intermediate shaft? From the looks of the picture it appears you do.
2) As long as the outer seal is not damaged, if you want, take a fine wire brush and gently go over the male end. That may help smooth out any rust and place just a little lube on the male splines.

When I replaced my CL-S6 axles, the left side was the one that gave me the hassle. What a PIA it was.

Clean with wire brush, put some grease, and then try to keep the axle straight and tap it in with rubber hammer. You can use some heavy grease to keep that lock ring centered. Don't use metal hammer as you might damage the threads, or use something softer than axle as a buffer (like a piece of wood).
